Hello Lilly! You are so wise to do research on Jehovah's Witnesses before committing to anything! I wish I had your smarts back when I was young. What I did was swallow everything told to me without thinking twice, to my great sorrow and my family's.
Welcome to this forum, it has helped me very much!

I have always been impressed at how smart, polite and nice Jehovah's Witnesses are. I envy the serenity and certainty of JWs.
Hi LillyC, and welcome. As you mention above in your impression of JWs, this is also what hooked me. They are taught to market themselves this way at regular meetings, to achieve interest in people. They are a true Doomsday Cult, and their motive is to recruit as many people as possible by hooking them with these tactics and others you have yet not discovered. Please, Please, Please research them. They are not what they seem.

Welcome LillyC, A BIG DITTO what other posters wrote about visiting www.jwfacts.com before you study with JWs.
Also, please visit Steve Hassan's website www.freedomofmind.com and watch the following three videos: Randy Watters, ex Jehovah's Witness elder August 2012 (26:43), How Big is the Phenomenon of Undue Influence? (2:01), and Strategic Interactive Approach explained 2003 (1:23:23). Steve Hassan is a cult-exit counselor and is a former Moonie.
The WTBTS is for people who do not want to critically think for oneself, blindly follow what WTBTS elders tell you to do, do not want to acquire more education to qualify for a well-paid career, support an organization that is more interested in protecting pedophiles more than children, will love-bomb you before you get baptized and pressure one to do more for the organization after, and like to shun/mark other JW friends and family who express differences with WTBTS's doctrines.
Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,
Robert

Lilly! Welcome.
It is a psuedo-intellecutal approach to learning which leads to a deep seated self righteousness. In time it will manifest itself to you if you keep playing thier game. Don't be fooled. Step back and be objective. Would God keep changing his mind on "Truth"? Duh.

Welcome. Yes, Jehovah's Witnesses seem to be very nice, they do reference the bible a lot. I felt the same when I joined many years ago. Unfortunately, there is a dark underside to this religion, that you cannot see when you first meet them. Please research carefully before you commit, they are not completely honest in revealing their history, practices and beliefs.
Did you know they think that soon God will destroy all who are not Jehovah's Witnesses?
Did you know they predicted this would happen in 1897, 1914, 1925, 1975, and a few other times?
Did you know they will shun you if you leave, and if you have family and friends that are in, they will be forced to shun you too?
Did you know they will also shun you if you celebrate Christmas, birthdays, Easter, or fourth of July?
Do you know you will be expected to attend many hours of meetings a week, plus study for many more hours, plus go knocking on doors to recruit others?
Do you know they are a multi billion dollar publishing empire that has substantial real estate holdings?
Did you know you will not be allowed to accept a blood transfusion to save your life, or that of your child?
Did you know that you will be constantly reminded that you are nit doing enough, no matter how much you do?
Did you know that they protect child molesters, and will pressure you to not contact the authorities, and that a prior history of child abuse will not preclude a man from being appointed an elder?
I am not saying you should believe every thing I say, but please, please look into it.

Hello LillyC welcome!
Many of us here have been in your footsteps before. I can't say I was because I was born in, but there are others who aren't. Anyway, before joining, I suggest you take a look at both sides of the equation before making a formal decision. Look at the history, past and current teachings, the positives and negatives, the different experiences people have, do some research. Jwfacts.com is a good start, and of course you have the official website Jw.org. There are many different ways to interpret the Bible, and the Witnesses have many unique ones compared to mainstream Christians. In the end, the decision is yours to make to join or not, but there are many people who will gladly help with questions.

Hello, LillyC--glad you are looking before you leap!
The powerful introduction I had to the WT religion was at age 35 and married. Disillusioned with other churches their stand against war was impressive to me.
The certainty you speak of was definitely there. I learned as I was taken in and participated in the Theocratic Ministry that JWs are carefully groomed for their door-to-door ministry. They speak with one voice.
These things may seem less like deterents and more like attractive, well-conceived effects of people in God's Kingdom.
Read Jesus' words only--not the doctrines in even the epistles--Just Jesus. He said "You will know the truth and the truth will set you free." There is none of that when you become a Jehovah'sWitness.
Research first--they do not allow that freedom once you are baptised.

Welcome here, never stop asking questions. Enjoy life and stay open minded. A lot of good advice above, I was once told believe nothing of what you are told and half of what you see. Works well if you are looking at JWs from new.
