Jesus wept - if they have to PAY for the services of a PR company to dictate common sense on so simple a matter their in trouble. Maybe more money than sense comes into play. I wouldn't be happy if I was a donor and this is where the money is going.

NO apology was made here anyway - unless I missed that tid-bit.

PS - NON-PROFIT COMPANIES. Is the biggest misnomer in the world. I know plenty of them. They strip out the money through wages and bonuses.

( not for one minute suggesting that AAWA would do any such thing - just highlighting how the system gets abused )

At least now they aknowledge this:

"on our launch day (April 3), a significant number of individuals from the Ex-JW community were added to AAWA’s Facebook group both by administrators and group members without their consent".

It's never too late to admit to a serious lack of good judgement.

    and this:

    Our Humble Apologies

We are also mindful of several individuals who suffered distress on April 3 when they were added to our group against their will. We should have handled matters differently. We therefore offer our most sincere and unreserved apologies to all of these ones, and any others who were in any way harmed through being added to our Facebook group without their consent.

    And the much needed apology:

"We are also mindful of several individuals who suffered distress on April 3 when they were added to our group against their will. We should have handled matters differently. We therefore offer our most sincere and unreserved apologies to all of these ones, and any others who were in any way harmed through being added to our Facebook group without their consent. In hindsight, we wish this decision had been made earlier. It is hoped that by taking this step now we we will go some way towards reassuring the Ex-JW community that we are very serious about our responsibility to safeguard people’s privacy "

It's very positive that they apologize and resolve the Facebook fiasco. Too little too late, perhaps? Time will tell.

And yet, there's something iffy about their priorities:

"Shortly after AAWA’s launch, it became apparent that our name might not be conveying our message to the mainstream media as effectively as we had intended."

What is their priority? Helping those who are leaving, the ex-JW, the faders, or feeding information to the press for media warfare against the Watchtower?

Those are probably the same questions they are asking themselves Eden

    1. Key Objectives

AAWA is committed to two key objectives:

    1. Raising awareness both inside and outside the Watchtower organization of its damaging beliefs and practices
    2. Assisting those who wish to leave the organization by making it easier for such ones to get the help and support they need

So do they have a number of social services on tap to help others? What are they?

Hopefully they can concentrate on doing whatever it is they intend to be doing instead of all this other stuff instead.

I'm still disappointed that they seem to have glossed over many of the things that came up and IMO should have provided a compelling story to start re-building trust such as what procesdures they have put in place to ensure that those sorts of things don't happen again, especially safeguards around handling of personal details and exactly who represents the AAWA and how they are allowed to act, the level of autonomy.

However, this is something and hopefully a step in the right direction.

Tylin, why did you create a link to JWN's homepage with the word "support" when it is not there on the AWAA website? Just curious.
