Well done James, you make a great fundi !

I was suggesting no such thing. Obviously those feelings serve to prolong a prey animal's life. But as Terry stated, why not just create life that lives off solar power? Grass doesn't have consciousness, so just herbivores would have been fine too.

You know for a fact that plants do not have a consciousness ?

Again, not being a creationalist these things do not bother me that much, that life evolved that way it did (regardless of how we view the good, the bad and the ugly of it) is to me an amazing sign of something far beyond "blind chance".

That works for me, it may not work for others, but it does for me.

JgNat: Maybe regular mortals can discuss "God". As long as they don't plan on having a comprehensive answer.

You've put your finger on it, I think.

How dare a created thing imagine they could ever be even slightly qualified to KNOW so far above their own plane of existence??

Yet, religious people seem almost boastfully "well informed"!

I'm thinking of the cartoon I saw with a goldfish bowl.

One fish is an Atheist and the other is a Theist.

The Theist goldfish says to the Atheist goldfish: "Oh yeah? If there is no god--then WHO changes the water?"

I tried the parable of the blind men and the elephant on a Witness. She blandly nodded in agreement but we both know she thought I was cracked.

Well, my great grandmother has carried this to extremes, then--she's been faking her death since 1955!

Perhaps Elvis is a better example!

It must have been a real shocker for Adam after he was put out of the Garden of Eden, to come across a Lion he used to pet and play

with before to only get bitten and have his arm torn off. Life can be so cruel.

And another thing to question, how was Adam's relationship with Eve after he realize her taunting him to eat that single piece of fruit

cause so much havoc and mayhem for himself and what was to transpire on earth.

Talk about the cold shoulder treatment, probably Eve had to sleep on the sofa there for awhile, I'm sure.

Eve said to Adam .. " But honey I didn't know he would do all this just for tasting that fruit, that snake said nothing would happen at all,

so I took his word for it. "

Adam replied .... " Eve for Christ sake how many snakes in the garden actually talked to us while we were there, didn't that first raise some red flags ?

He did warn us to not eat that fruit, didn't he ?

Eve replied .... But Adam I didn't know what I lie was, no one ever lied before this time.

Adam replied .... Well now you know ! in any case I'm sure this is just a temporary thing, I'm sure he'll let us return after he cools

    off a little.

Eve replies ...... I sure hope so, those tiny insects that were in the Garden are now biting me and it hurts.

Adam replies .... I think thats the least of are worries, that tiger over there has been staring at like were going to be his next meal !

to me an amazing sign of something far beyond "blind chance".

Which is a point I continue to attempt to make and fail at: we only have to be bedazzled above our own level of explanation to fall into awe and superstition!

This is how priests and magicians gained power at the court of Kings for so many centuries. They knew how to fascinate, mystify and create a state of inexplicable awe!

You know for a fact that plants do not have a consciousness ?

I won't pretend that I have absolute certainty, but plants are generally considered to have sensations, but no "feelings" in the sense of emotions. This can be tested for, and has been, with no scientific results. Since they lack a central nervous system, it should not be possible for them to be aware of their own suffering. However, since plants have sensations, it's been suggested that they deserve compassion as living things. So I guess I really just feel that plants are lower on the totem pole than animals because of the lack of a mind. Plants being eaten does not bother me, but animals do. Perhaps I'm just a bigoted kingdomist ;)

Again, not being a creationalist these things do not bother me that much, that life evolved that way it did (regardless of how we view the good, the bad and the ugly of it) is to me an amazing sign of something far beyond "blind chance".

Well, I tend to agree that things feel too designed, but then again, we're still coming to understand the fundamental nature of the universe.

Well, count that as "enlightenment" and regard such as a kind of present, then:)
