@ DesirousOfChange - Before my awakening, I did wonder why it was so expensive to host an assembly/convention. But I never dreamed of questioning it.
After my awakening and finding out what really goes on, I wasn't surprised. I rarely contributed in the past, but I never did after that also.

I recall an Watchtower or Awake article years ago entitled "An open or closed mind - which do you have?". That would be good to see in this thread.
Ray Franz discusses this hypocritical position of JW's - encouraging others to have an open mind about critiquing their own religion, but closing their own minds to anything critical of their own beliefs - in his book "In Search of Christian Freedom".

They reckon that once you determine the fds is valid, there is no reason to ever study more or change your mind. Seriously, who in real life ever commits to something long term without reviewing the decision inthe light of changed circumstances or information you didn't have before? Do you stay in an investment without reviewing its results and performance regularly and if you receive damning info about it which was hidden to you when you joined, would you not study more and be able to decide to leave? Or is what you learned in primary school to never be progressed from? Once you believe that 2+2=4, can you never move on to algebra?
