    High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
    And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air....
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace.
Where never lark or even eagle flew —
And, while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

    John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

I remember President Reagan recited this poem while addressing the disaster.

    Challenger Astronauts

    • Commander Francis R. (Dick) Scobee

    • Pilot Michael J. Smith

    • Mission specialists Ronald E. McNair, Ellison S. Onizuka and Judith A. Resnik

    • Payload specialists Gregory B. Jarvis and Christa McAuliffe, who was to have been the first teacher in space and was chosen from more than 11,000 applicants.

    Hey to you, Was.

I remember being so proud that Ronald E. McNair, a Black man, and Christa McAuliffe and Judith Resnik, women, were on the mission. I can still recall their smiles and waves as they headed into the capsule.

Well, I do remember watching Challenger on the ABC Evening News when Fox News had not exactly existed yet and Reagan addressed the Nation. It pains me deeply to say that it represented a serious change in my life in the months after that I decided to fade away from an organization that drifted away from Jehovah. After dealing with my many looses, I found that healing was coming to my mind when I realized that I needed to read only my Bible. Only time will show whether it will open the eyes of the other half of the Family. There have been snipets of Hope, so I will continue to hope.

    Happy Trails!! Truth and Justice
