Go skiing with 3000 other JWs in Big Bear, Ca.
I forgot about that Designs. I remember a lot of JWs did that on Christmas Day. I think my wife and I may have done it once. That is probably one of the only benefits anyone ever got out of being a JW.

Go to the beach.
That was a bummer of a day for our JW family. We sure didn't go out in service- the kids hated it- everyone had new presents to show off- except them. I think we went to a movie.
Now that I am Jewish, I see the difference. Jews have their Hannukah and don't worry about Xmas- the Chinese restaurants love their Jewish customers on Xmas eve and Xmas day.- in fact it was used that day at my last Temple as a volunteer day at the local soup kitchen- we Jews served up the lunch and let the Christians have the morning with their families.
Working, making lovely holiday pay!
After us kids were all growed up and moved out, we'd visit out parents during the holidays and lounge around doing puzzles, watching TV, renting movies or whatever. Kind of an annual mini family reunion. Mom would do big dinners and all...

We went to Waffle House and the movies. The only two places open in the south on Christmas day.
Two or three years in a row in the late 80's my parents would take us to the MGM Grand Hotel (now the Grand Sierra Resort) in Reno for a few days around Christmas. Kinda ironic to be staying in a casino hotel during the Christmas holiday.
Yeah, we played the slots too.
There was another family that we used to get together with on Christmas for many years. We would always go out for a Chinese dinner and then to a movie. Now that I, and that other family, are all ex-JW's, we often still get together around Christmas time, though they reserve the actual day for visiting with their own family. Now, we (that's me and my current wife; my ex is still a JW and I shun her as much as possible) usually meet up with my daughter (former pioneer, but also not involved with the JW's anymore) for Chinese and a movie, just to keep up the tradition. My wife's family always has their actual Christmas celebration on another day, so it works out very nicely.
It's a day of pure relaxation and leisure! Since so many of us are free from work, and we're so very clicky and chummy with eachother, we usually end up having a gathering in someone's house and sharing a meal, playing cards and other games, dancing, others play their instruments. Just a very nice and good time, without the pagan implication of the holiday.
Most, most enjoyable a day!

As a JW we would go with a large group snow skiing. Every year, it was a good day.
Now we get together with our fellow apostates and family in the area. It also is a very good day.
Magwich - your ex-husband sounds like a jerk, sorry.
