If God is omnipotent, then he should already know your needs without you having to say anything. We at least do that for each other....how much more should an all knowing, all powerful, all loving God do for us?

Jesus pretty much said the same thing when he said that Our Father knows what we need before we ask him.
The act of praying is more for US than for God per say.
