This will mean that poor, uneducated (stupid) republicans now have a chance at living longer. I'm rethinking my support for the reforms (previously on humanitarian grounds, now on the grounds that fewer old white dumb republicans are probably better for the planet in the long run).

    Can we demand a recount?

Indeed. The racist undercurrents have barely been concealed in these threads. And it's a beautiful double standard, to deal in racist and racialist postings is OK, so long as it doesn't go against "protected groups"--unless you don't subscribe to the Authorized Ideology, then those pejoratives can be directed your way. On the other hand, to oppose this legislation based on sound reasons automatically gets you lumped in with racists, and heartless ones at that. Alinskyite and Gramscian work on the dialogue has been a stunning success.

Simon of course, can make his own rules. Jerkhovah's got nothing on him, he keeps his own counsel, and who shall darken it? Let's not forget his slanted treatment of political discussion on this board. And let's not forget Simon's Great Sodomite Purge of 2008.

To ensure all users feel safe and keen to participate, please avoid:

Inciting hatred on the basis of race, religion, gender, nationality or sexuality or other personal characteristic.

Unless, to quote Dinah on the other thread, you're a "cracker" or a "beaner", or failing that, get called homophobic terms like "teabagger". If you are American, it is open season to incite hatred against you and your people based on nationality. If you profess a religion, that is OK too! The believer hater threads are legion here.

In all these cases, it's OK to call someone the equivalent version of terms like "nigger" or "kike", because these are politically correct epithets.

I saw this as the headline news when I opened my browser this morning.

CONGRATULATIONS to all you Americans who can't afford health care. Now instead of paying crushing medical care debts and money to health care HMOs that don't pay back you can pay less in taxes and still be covered without having some HMO beaurocrat saying NO we won't pay for that.

This isn't socialism. It is caring for your fellow Americans who can't afford to go bankrupt. Which in the end the rich can't afford either

I sat here and literally applauded Obama who stuck with it and got the votes. Now if the senate can do their part all Americans can get health care without breaking the bank

    I'm so proud of Obama!

I believe some were attaching FAIL to his name?

Now, on to the Senate, which worries me more than anything else.

What this really means is immediately higher taxes, as usual. This is the only thing that is absolutely sure about it right now.

What it means for actual American health care (as actually practiced by the providers) is very unsure.

Forcing all people to buy a private product may be found to be unconstitutional.
