This topic really made me smile, but I have to say that we settled this whole debate on JWD over 8 years ago!

    BRITS v YANKS

    Result? Brit's rule!

In England, it's not 'grim up north' any more! Most of the mills closed down and we don't have thick smog now, we do see daylight and even sunshine occasionally! And most of the men don't wear flat caps or keep ferrets down their trousers!

As for language questions, why do Merrycans call crisps "chips" and chips "fries"? Here, (French) fries are merely thin chips (UK version!!!)!

    Hi Creativehoney,

Thought you might find this old thread interesting:

    Hello All,

Just when I thought I'd trip up GOOGLE with an impossible and undecipherable phrase, the search engine produces some potential 430,000 offerings. On holiday I read DIANA: HER TRUE STORY, by Andrew Morton. On page 147 I read:

If the royal family doesn't change and their relationships with the rest of society
don't change, it is on a hiding to nothing.

I had no clue what the last seven words of the sentence meant. Someone else was clueless:

I can confirm that the third pin is the ground, although it can be left out of double insulated products. British plugs are much safer than other plugs since the ground has to be inserted before the live terminals open and the live pins are insulated half way down the pin so you cant get a shock even if you hold the live pins while inserting the plug. Our plugs also have to contain a fuse. Other plugs are somewhat primitive in design.

The picture labled 'Big Ben' is incorrect, it is a picture of the clock tower of the Palace of Westminster, Big Ben is merely the name of the main bell in the clock tower. Although to be fair most British people would get that wrong too.

Cadbury's dairy milk is by no means the finest chocolate in the world, as milk chocolate goes it isn't bad but Cadbury's other brand Green and Black's make a much nicer milk chocolate. Green and Black's and Lindt make the best dark chocolate.

I was soooooo disappointed when I tasted Hershey's Kisses on a visit to the States.........................really sugary & sickly

    Chocolate it aint!!

Cadburys is better but not 'great' chocolate.

As you say Caedes Green & Black & Lindt are very good.
