Id love to say I waited, I fully intended to....but I had a fiance who was very pushy and pressured me into it :( JUST before the wedding day. We were each others 'firsts' however, so it worked out ok. The elders didn't find out about it until many years later, for which we were both put on private reproof.

Too many really do wait--and regret it after. That is like buying a car by finalizing the purchase (no refunds, either) and then learning that it is a piece of crap, it guzzles gas, or is too small to fit your needs. Or, it does not perform adequately. That's what test drives are for.

And, a "test drive" of a marriage, perhaps even before the proposal, is in order. If you "test drive" it, you can back out without penalty if you turn out to be incompatible or the partner is not capable of performing to your standards. If, however, you like the trial, you should be able to pursue marriage without having to report to a gauntlet of chaperones and hounders every time you are together. Time together alone is important to see if you are really made for each other, and if "fornication" is the result, so what.

I waited and it was a huge mistake. If we had just had sex I doubt we would have gotten married. Of course, if we weren't in this ridiculous cult, there's no way we would have gotten married.

I think it depends on the congregation, generation and individual........

I know more who did then didn't.....

I also know more JW adults who do then JW teenagers who don't..........

My husband and I waited ,we were married in1979 .

Of the witness kids that were friends with our children I would say 1/4th of them had sex before they got married . One of the last witness weddings that I photographed before we faded was interesting . We were taking photo's at the brides home early morning ,and she kept running to the bathroom to throw up . The mother kept saying ,"OH she took her birth control pills on an empty stomach ..." But through the morning I began to wonder if instead it wasn't just "morning sickness " . Sure enough a couple of months later the Mom told everyone that her daughter got pregnant on her Honeymoon .....whatever .

The vast majority do. People are watched too carefully, with the chaperone mandate and the fear of being df'd.

Bluecanary says "I waited and it was a huge mistake. If we had just had sex I doubt we would have gotten married."

This is easily is the supidest comment I ever read. As to the question from the original poster I would say the percentage of Witnesses who wait until marraige is much higher than non-Witnesses.

Blue Grass why do you think my comment was stupid? I was one of those witnesses who wanted to get married because I really wanted to have sex. So was my ex-husband, or so we both thought. Until we actually had sex and he realized the experience doesn't have much in common with the pornos he liked to watch. He learned that he didn't like sex while I learned that I did. If I knew that's how he would be before marrying, I wouldn't have done it.
