He hit the ground running, and if the Republicans can get the hell out of the way...
He just got the biggest domestic Government spending plan in history passed. Out of the entire Congress he got 3 votes from Republican senators and he did not need them but wanted them to help spread the blame when this thing comes a cropper. 3.5 million jobs, huh? we'll see. I truly hope it will happen but common sense says it's just a big payback to the Unions, special interests and an insurance policy for the Democratic party to continue in power through the creation of more Gov't. intervention in our lives. Health care will be the coup de gras.

Excellent..considering at the point he had to start with. He's signing the law to revamp the bankruptcy law which is a solid start to actually dealing with foreclosures..setting deadlines from which the stimulus has to be spent..opened up the Freedom to Information act so people could actually use it....sammieswife.
The legislation would include a provision changing the bankruptcy law to allow judges to modify the mortgages of distressed homeowners, including by reducing the principal of the loan to the property's current market value, he said. This proposal has already gained support from one House committee but drawn fierce objections from Republicans and the financial industry. Though Obama supports this provision, he declined to include it in the stimulus bill approved yesterday, fearing the bankruptcy measure would derail the overall legislation, Democratic congressional sources said.
Another provision, Frank said, would provide legal protection to lenders who reduce interest rates or otherwise modify the terms of troubled loans for homeowners. Some previous foreclosure prevention efforts have been hampered by the threat that investors who own securities backed by the mortgages would sue to block loan modifications, according to the financial services industry.

Scarred for life
Too early to say. He needs at least 6 months before we can see how things are going.
He does sound smarter than our previous President. I hope that turns out to be true.

I think he is proving McCain correct, in that he did not have enough Washington experience and even political experience for the job. It is going to be a fun four years. LOL

Actually, no. Wealthy women have always been able to arrange for an abortion. I think it's rather telling that you and yours assume that the only women that need abortions, are the poor. They just happen to be the only women who need HELP.
Help those who cannot afford to and choose to have a legal abortion and you a)give those women a safe, secure medically approved environment to get attention in and b) allow those women, men and families if they so choose that legal right, to improve their lives and rise up from poverty.
I had a relative who died in her early 30's from a filthy, botched abortion in the early 40's. She had been breeding every year she could and had 6 kids - she was Catholic - very Catholic, and almost all forms of birth control were banned. Her emotional state was such that she couldn't bear to have another child, she told nobody and tried to have it done alone. She paid the price and died. Her kids were left alone without a mother. You can call it selfish but I call it a lack of education and a lack of support and awareness of the church to move forward and step in. Had birth control been available and accepted, she would not have chosen the path she did. Had she received some sort of education or had there been a clinic she could have gone to then I have no doubt she would have made different choices. There is a need for those services - not for those who do have the money to fly to another city and use a doctor and a hospital privately, but for those who don't. We should also not forget that although we often hear nothing but stories about women who regret having their abortion - there are just as many or more who don't regret it.
As for Obama hating kids - please. Planned parenthood and abortion rights are just one in a thousand issues he has to get through and since he's signed into his bills and advocated more help in medical care and nutrition for kids, I'd say he's doing something right. He's taking care of all those kids who need help now - who are already here and need food, clothes, housing and education. sammieswife.

Sammie, I have decided it's pointless. So many of these people are so shortsighted, unable to reason, selfish in the extreme, blind to the big picture, bamboozled by their empty heroes, or trapped by the belief in a god that does not exist, that no amount of information or reality is going to get through to them.

Just one aspect of this, among many: When this country goes down the drain - it will be because of the $790 billion stimulus package - NOT because of the $3 trillion Iraq war............what a bunch of hypocritical BS...............!
