Ah yes, the workings of a cult. What I'd like to know is, where was Jehovah's spirit when Rutherford ran the organization??

The light about accumulating wealth, smuggling, alcohol abuse, burlesque and nudie bars wasn't clear then so Jehober gave him a pass.

People perceiving a "bad spirit" is often just a disturbance in their personal game.

    well put.........

I intend to totally crash the "holy(??)" spirit. If my Ouija board, having an apartment full of Christmas decorations, belonging to a "secret society" that encourages independent thinking, being active on several apostate web sites, and missing every single one of the boasting sessions doesn't do it, I don't know what will. Perhaps by bringing in as many demons as possible to the Kingdumb Hell...

Brought this back, in response to Room215 who stated, "Remember this one?" and for the Newbies!

I remember that the idea of god's spirit being hindered in the congregation would be spoken of from the platform - with great seriousness.

Right away my mind would be thinking hmmm... I did notice that Brother so & so seemed kinda strange. My eyes would dart around the room hoping to catch someone looking guilty! lol

We were spoon fed such crap!

Given the fact that most JWs feel unworthy and constantly guilty over something, that type of talk is an effective way of getting a lot of people to confess all sorts of things to the elders, as well as turn other people in.

It's also a good way of getting people to boost their actual FS hours and cut down on padded time reports.

I have definitely heard this.. Many years back we had a young "sister" who had a "worldly" appearance (long blonde hair, tight clothes and a flirty attitude) Several elders were obviously captivated and she was "flavour of the month" for a while. But she went too far and was disfellowshipped.

An old elder spoke from the platform in the service meeting. With all seriousness he said how he expected things to improve from now on, since it had been clear to him that Jehovah's spirit had been lacking recently and now that the blockage had been removed....well, just see how things will lift !

    P S Nobody believed him...

The only people I ever heard talking about something blocking the flow of holy spirit to the congregation, were people who were up to no good themselves.

I remember one elder I knew asking a few of us ministerial servants if we had any ideas as to whether something could be blocking the spirit, when I personally knew he had a terrible relationship with his wife, was jerking off to teen porn, and was spending increasing amounts of time with his bible study's baptised sister whom he eventually ended up marrying after faking a scriptural divorce from his then wife. Not that she minded, it was the best thing that could have happened to her in all honesty.

It's usually an admission of guilt, however the dream ticket is to find some other sucker to pin it all on, then you can get on with normal life again and noone suspects a thing. As long as there's a sacrifice on the altar of wrongdoing, any old sacrifice, atonement can be obtained. Amen.

They've been trotting out that old crapola since Rutherford's time, if not before.... it's usually a prelude to a witch hunt and/or wholesale removal of elders... a from of theocractic bloodletting!
