Notice how they followed the quote about shunning apostates with a comment about hate:

Such ones [apostates] are as fruitless as dead trees in late autumn. They face destruction, as do uprooted trees. Wise we are to shun apostates.
True Christians hate what is bad.

By finishing one statement with the admonition to shun apostates but begining the next statement that Christians hate what is bad it leaves an impression on the easily manipulated minds of most JWs: "Apostates bad. Hate what is bad. Hate apostates."

I was thinking something was up lately. My mother in law has been very stand offish, which she never was with us. And she had always gone to Thanksgiving dinner at her daughter's house, everyone having the day off and all..But not this year. She was adament to her daughter that she cannot celebrate Thanksgiving!! Her daughter said, "Fine, just don't cook a turkey later and expect any of us to come and eat."

Would I know your mom alamb?

    Mouthy,

I understand, however 62 is not a spring chicken. And she is your daughter so only you know what's best to do, but if I ever do that, somebody slap me.

Children are to respect their mothers, doesn't it say that in the Bible? Oh I forgot she has the JW version.

Can someone post a scan of the whole article? Wonder why she chose certain paragraphs. I could send her the WHOLE article....with notes of course.

These are mean, calculating, cold hearted bastards. They are covering their lying, deceitful, double-talking asses by strong-arming their pathetic followers into a hermetically sealed environment where the WTS is the only source of input on any subject. The word is C-U-L-T .

As a daughter, I could never imagine not speaking to my mother.

I would never ask her for money unless we were starving. I really can't believe what I just read:

This is so wicked. My daughter spoke to me for the first time a couple of weeks ago, Her hubby (not a JW) had called me & asked if I could let him have some money,my daughter had been paying all year on a trip with the JW's( Cruise) Nov...but even though it was paid for ,she would have no spending money, ( she did not know he was calling) I sent $500.00

She did e-mail me & thank me for it ,no conversation though... except to explain she was not there when hubby called

and then that the husband had not worked for a few years....

Excuse me.....I consider this abuse of the elderly, Do you have anyone looking out for you? I realize you can spend money as you see fit...but honestly...this was just greed and abuse.

    Sorry if this is hurtful.

    r.

    Just my 2 cents...

Many dubs probably won't get around to reading that part of the WT since it isn't in a study article. Of the ones that read it, you probably have three reactions.

First, those already not associating with their exJW family will continue to shun, and insult.

Second, many of those not shunning will continue to not shun. They'll simply rationalize, "My family isn't apostate, just inactive and needs encouragement."

Third, those who try to start shunning now, all of a sudden, will quickly get frustrated that their exJW family isn't returning to the KH tearfully begging to return. After they see that their real family is moving on without them and enjoying life, they'll come back around and realize that the WT is now several months old and outdated.

ALAMB- Hey sis - Mr. Flipper here. I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. I am especially sorry for your children having to see that their grandmother puts conditions on her showing of love or affection to them. It's sick and twisted . I'm with Lawrence on this one - I've never known 1 apostate who " feign's love " . They are some of the most real people I've met ! I think the governing body of the WT society feigning love towards your mom and other witnesses is far more dangerous than a daughter trying to be authentic towards her mom ! But she is under " cult mind control " - she doesn't see it - or refuses to see it. If anybody is being endangered - it is you and your husband and children from your mother's " cult mind controlled " rhetoric ! Please keep protecting your children from the attitude she puts out.

Your mom might be the type of fanatic witness that only a severe life altering experience might change her priorities in life . But who knows ? Hang in there, Peace out, Mr. Flipper

    Jude 12, "Lessons for us":

Wise we are to shun apostates.

When did Yoda start with the Writing Dept.? This is so hilarious....I could hear Yoda's voice. They do have a way with words, don't they? I was in the org. for over thirty years. I don't remember many warnings about apostates years ago. Seems like every couple of months now, they have warnings...either in magazines, or at conventions. They must really be on edge.
