I didn't want to say anything, but now that you mention it along with another poster.....
My husband and I were in Paris during the middle of a terrible heat wave about 4 years ago. Between the dog poop in the streets and the underarm odor going on,.......oh my god! The entire place seemed filthy. We were staying at a very high end section on the Seine. I remember being near a huge shopping center, I had to watch every step I made. Finally a huge street sweeper came in....all it seemed to do was grind the dog waste into the cement.
The worst was at every restaurant dogs were under just about every table.
In Germany they are spotlessly clean.....they even have doggie pick up bags available in the streets. There are dogs everywhere, but no poop to be spotted. And as a group, ....they smell a whole lot better too!
