On paragraph 11, I think Lois didn't want to attend the wedding so she wouldn't have to buy a gift. You know, donate that money to WTBTS instead.
To Lois and Ruth: With 'conscience matters', whatever decision you make will be WRONG! Yeah, try to do research, but for every WT reference you find to make one choice, there are references also telling you to do something else. Of course, somebody will be 'stumbled' and it's all your fault for going/not going.
