    OK, I'm convinced, just females who can't stay on topic. You clearly know exactly what my comment was meaning. The topic is about "LOOKS", GAWKING and STARING" caused by women exposing alot of their flesh, or wearing very revealing clothing, and how women shouldn't think it's just the guys who have the problem with their eyes.

    You all don't realize you have proven my point 500% by all your posts. I couldn't have asked for better results.

    staring, leering, gawking at a woman, no matter what she is dressed like is rude and inappropriate behavior. In fact, legally if it continues, is unwanted and unwelcomed it can be considered visual sexual harrassment. public harrassment can be defined as "unwanted attention" of any kind, including "being stared at in a way that made you feel uncomfortable."

    What is Sexual Harassment?

    The legal, criminal definition of sexual harassment includes unsolicited verbal, visual or physical behavior such as:

    * Leering* Offensive jokes
    * Sexually suggestive gestures
    * Pinching
    * Hugging (or any other physical contact)
    * Pressure (explicit or implied) for sexual relations
    * The display of sexual images.
    It also includes:
    * Molestation
    * Sexual assault
    * Explicit violence in the form of rape.

    Examples of sexual harassment:
    * Expressly unwelcome and unreciprocated deliberate or repeated verbal comments of a sexual nature, including suggestive remarks and offensive jokes.
    * Unsolicited and unreciprocated physical contact such as touching, pinching, patting, hugging or brushing against someone.
    * An unwelcome display of sexually offensive or erotic images.
    * Unwelcome and unreciprocated sexual teasing, including jokes, remarks or questions.
    * Treating someone as a sex object, rather than an equal in society.
    * Unsolicited, unwelcome and unreciprocated sexually suggestive looks or gestures such as leering, ogling and staring.* Ignoring a person's skill, experience or ability, focusing instead on physical, gender-specific attributes. Sexual harassment is NOT:
    It's equally important, however, to note exactly what sexual harassment is not:
    * Compliments provided the recipient has raised no objection.
    * Solicited or reciprocated flirtation based on mutual attraction.

    Sexual Harassment Legal Status

    Sexual harassment issues first appeared in law in the 1970's, when women and their lawyers began arguing that various kinds of sexual behavior resulted in the exclusion of or discrimination against women. This was illegal because it violated the U.S. Civil Rights Act of 1964. Courts began to rule in agreement with this position in the late 1970's.

    In 1980, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission declared that sexual harassment was illegal because it discriminated against women.

    The EEOC also defined what constituted sexual harassment. Sexual harassment is any unwelcome sexual conduct that occurs in the workplace or school.

    Sexual harassment can be divided into two basic types, harassment that creates an unpleasant environment, and 'quid pro quo' harassment. Quid pro quo refers to the practice of offering employment or advancement in exchange for sex or sexual favors.

    Harassment that creates an unpleasant environment can include behavior such as sexist jokes, repetitive requests for sex, inappropriate touching, continued staring, the displaying of pornographic materials, or anything else that can be proved to create a "hostile work environment."

    Sexual harassment suits target the complainant's employer, so there are concerns that the accuser will face retaliation for accusing her superiors. For this reason, there exist laws that protect the rights of an accusing employee. Employers cannot fire or demote an employee because of a sexual harassment lawsuit.

    I'm convinced you're ignoring my posts, I get that behaviour no matter what I wear, you're implying that's my fault regardless.

    Ok I am trying to be very tactful and respectful to your beliefs here Merry, but this is not what I have seen practiced by Islam in North America.

    Thank you for your tact and respect, sweetstuff. Much appreciated. But, in all fairness, I did not address what Muslims may or may not be doing, here, there or anywhere, but what is taught, according to my own experience and understanding of Qur'an and Sunnah. When Muslims do the opposite of what is taught in Qur'an and Sunnah I am saddened, but what they do is not my responsibility and not within my control. What I do is, insha Allah. I do hope, however, that expanded programs of education and assistance will help them and coming generations of Muslims and Muslimas.

    Did modest clothing stop the women in Afganistan from being brutally raped by members of the Taliban leadership? Nope. It did not. Did Islamic principals stop said rapists from doing such action?

    Does anything short of imprisonment or death stop a rapist from raping or an abuser from abusing? I don't believe I implied what you seem to think I did. I do not believe anything a victim wears, does or says has the power to either infallibly protect her from rape/abuse or to cause rape/abuse. But I still believe dressing and behaving modestly is the correct thing for me to do and I try to follow the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah in that regard, out of love and respect for Allah, for my fellow humans, and for myself.

    Notaness. Interesting topic. Interesting views. I found it startling that so many assumptions were instantly generated by it regarding personal motives and character. I find this sort of thing happens a lot in more intimate personal relationships, to no one's benefit. Empassioned assumptions, a rush to judgment. It is better, I think, to question first, to contemplate, to tease the matter out a bit. Then again, maybe you were just asking for itLOL

    I can't understand a woman suporting a religion where she receives stronger restrictions than men on personal choices and liberties, except of course for born in's to whatever.

    Yea...off topic. Back to the talk about cleavage and stuff...that was much less serious.

    Brinjen, I already sent you a PM, do you see it?

    Thanks Merry. This will pass. There's been so many topics on this forum that people have taken the belt over. Many topics that people haven't liked. Not like mine was a CRAZY topic or something. It's a serious topic though, that gets people stirred up apparently.

    I could have easily posted a topic telling guys to stop staring at women all the time, be civilized when women are around, treat them better, etc, etc, and I would have received flack from that too. Just another day in paradise

    Interesting that you chose this one if you also had that one in mind.
