    Women being second class.

Lack of real care or love.

Nasty, backstabbing, gossiping women and men with nothing better to do.

Lack of love or tolerance for children, especially other peoples children.

    Obsession with 'time'.

    Judging eachother constantly.

    Petty, stupid behaviour.

I hated the little petty things:

    No beards for men?

Do not say "God bless you" after someone sneezes

    Certain hairstyles were worldly

Constant inquiry into your personal or family business from people you hardly knew in the congregation

judging people for no reason other than missing a few meetings

Any other stupid things like these, Lilly

    A number of things,

Foremost what that you had to agree with everyone else that there was some sort of 'God' responsible for everything and constantly blessing people who went out in service and throwing the ones that didn't to the devil.

It amazes me how the same problems are worldwide, like gossiping, etc. but what used to annoy me was how competative the sisters were with appearance. They used to try and outdo each other with the latest clothes, (esp the elders wives!) it was quite funny to watch them, and some of the men were as bad with cars etc. I can remember one family who had personal numberplates, and were so up there own ass it was untrue. Then you get the `spiritual snobs` who claim lineage back to russell or rutherford, (nothing to be proud of i don`t think!) and uncle so an so is a c.o, and mum and dad were special pioneers in the Outer Hebrides, whilst their brother is at Bethel, bla bla bla.

The time issue hits a nerve with me also. It was always time to go to a meeting.

As a jw they can do anything they want... as long as no one knows about it. Like when you take a vacation, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. I knew jws that visited us in Vegas and had no problem hitting the casinos as the j-s back home would never know.

As a high school grad in 1974, being told higher education was a waste of my time

Being told secular ambition was a snare of Satan

Not being allowed to date until I was marrying age AND being able to afford to be married first

No friends outside of kh, however no one my age was at kh

No hobbies that required time, fishing only after fs, but fishing was best in the morning

Maintaining "Unity" in beliefs, not 'leaning to your own understanding'

Not trying 'to make a name for yourself' yet seeing Selena, Prince,Mickey Spalane, Venis twins and others hit the big time in sports and entertainment

Listening to wt study and they all basicly preached more activity in fs as the answer for everything

The beard thing. It was bad enough they wouldn't let the guys have beards; although I knew a few sisters who had beards and they weren't asked to shave them off or lose privileges - oh pardon me, women didn't have any privileges except cleaning toilets!

Many of the petty rules that were quite arbitary; the negativity and counsel against higher learning; the overuse of guilt and fear to motivate people; the harshiness and obsessiveness of some elders; the incredulous logic used to prove points; etc..
