Thanks for this very interesting thread, jw facts and all your efforts! Much appreciated.

I keep reading about how elders supposedly don't read these letters. Really? I have a hard time believing that. Just seems to me that most people's curiosity would get the better of them. And perhaps, in private, those letters do get read by somebody, even if the rest of the body doesn't see them. Not that I know, I'm just surmising.

What I love about using the word 'annull' in any letter is that it would probably confuckle the recipients no end, although if this method is used in profusion, the confuckle value might diminish. "Brother so-and-so - what do we do in this instance? Do we df? do we treat as da'd? Haven't seen this before, not sure how to proceed." Maybe the letter recipient thinks he needs to 'share the letter' with another brother to receive 'guidance' - so the letter gets read again! 'Perhaps Brooklyn or Legal needs to be involved'. The letter then gets forwarded. Ha, I love it!

Whatever works! I'm dreaming of a room FILLED with just such letters...files and files and files of them. I bet the 'legal' department is the fastest growing sector of the borg anyhow.

One elder that received my letter replied by email, telling me he was "afraid" that my letter might harm him.

I've seen several baptisms anulled but I come down on the side of those saying requesting it is a silly notion.

Baptism anullment is a legal way of getting the Congregation out of a complicated position.

It's not there as a viable option for disguntled witnesses to avoid dismemberment/DF/DA. otherwise myself and many others would have done it thirty years ago while still a active dubs. Several of my sisters and my young brother cotoned on to the 'don't get baptised' lurk and made the most of it, realising that you can, to a great extent, fly under the radar that way. You can still be an approved associate without the responsibility or pressure to go out in feild service, attend meetings regularly, stive for responsibility etc...

Oh if it were so easy we'd all be doing it and there'd be a clamp down on those chosing the easy way out. Stuff the tower and it's shithead Elders with their pius convaluted legalistic bullshit, why cover yourself in filth playing their sick pedantic paper games?

My offering in the "best most effective letter ever written to the WBTS" would be short, sweet and to the point. eg:

Dear Watchtower Dribble and Pratt Society,

Fuck off and leave me alone.

    yours sincerely,

    unclebruce.

Long winded ego driven explainations about false prophesy, blood transfusions, the animal count on Noah's Ark, your head hurting and all the other crap sounds like absolute piffle and to the dub reading it. like someone piss weak in the truth, drunk on their own self importance and stoned on apostate porn. Grow up people, be strong and act like the proud independant soul you know you are. Look back by all means but forget writting letters to people who don't give a shit about you. The best revenge of all is a happy life well lived.

ps: apologies if this sounds harsh but really a few people here seem to be suffering Stockholm Syndrome and other types of psycological entrappment. wwhen it comes to your life, your feelings, your thoughts, you don't need to explain anything to anybody not even your closest loved ones. As soon as you do you're giving these bastards power over you. In practice that's all the Watchtower religion is about. Not doctrine, not love, not truth, not money - power, it's the only game in Kingdom Hall.

Just musing over this - I do wish that this was an option, but I agree with the posters that have expressed the opinion that it won't work.

I wonder though, what if one were to write a letter saying that you no longer recognise yourself as a member of the XXXXtown Congregation of Jehovah's witnesses? Would that stop the local body having authority over you? The congregations don't have the same legal resources as the WTBTS.

    Thoughts anyone?

Good question. I think it depends on how the Watchtower Society tries to represent itself. They want to be in charge of the local congregations, but they also want to insulate themselves from legal liabilities from the local congregations. I don't think it would make much difference now, but if legal pressures forces them to continue moving away from a hierarchical structure, then maybe we will see the day when we can just resign from a local congregation without the headquarters wanting to make it apply to the whole organisation.

I wrote the headquarters once asking for confirmation of my status after I left. (I just wanted something in writing.) They just referred me to the local congregation. It's almost like they were trying to deny responsibility for any action taken against me.

This letter is for you and you alone. It will matter not to them. The thing's I would ask myself is this. Why would I give them the satisfaction in knowing they still have this level of control in my life? If you no longer believe in a God? Then what could it possibly matter? If you do believe? Then your baptism was to God. Was Jesus baptized as an JW? No! Live free!
