    How about The Green Mile?

    Too Kill A Mockingbird.

    Places in the Heart

Yes, The Joy Luck Club. I just saw it for the first time and I cried several times, especially when the woman lets go of the baby in the bath and it drowns.

Then there is The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood. When the mother is beating her kids with a belt in the rain. That always reminds me of my own mother beating us, totally losing self control. It hits home so hard that I burst into tears just like I am nine years old again.

    With only one colour dead

    American History X.

Speaks volumes about race relations in the United States, and the true cause / origins of racism.
