I love how the word greediness is used to justify disfellowshipping people for smoking, gambling, anything remotely sexual, alcohol, whatever the FDS don't like at the time. Why is it never used for gluttons? I can not find a single case of any person ever being d/f for gluttony. Don't me wrong, I don't think people should be d/f for gluttony either, but it just seems like a glaring double standard.
Sir82 said "Apparently, a lot of elders are using the "loose conduct" category of sin as a catch-all to D-F anyone who they dislike."
That is definitely the case. I was told if I am ever caught again talking to a d/f person i will be d/f. I asked on what scriptural ground. The answer was loose conduct.
According to Strongs a•sel´gei•a.
“From a compound of ? - a 1 (as a negative particle) and a presumed selges (of uncertain derivation, but apparently meaning continent); licentiousness (sometimes including other vices):--filthy, lasciviousness, wantonness.”
Other bibles such as King James and American Standard use the term lasciviousness, meaning to express lust or be lecherous. The NIV uses the term debauchery. Clearly loose conduct is filthy, extreme, shocking behaviour. However, without any backing the elders extend loose conduct to refer to an attitude of disrespect, such as not doing what the FDS or elders advise.
It now looks like uncleaness is going to be the other catch all. What? Disfellowship a brother for kissing someones breasts three times or calling 0900 numbers for uncleaness, so they can never talk to family and friends again?
