Nationwide elders' campaign to find JWs using www.myspace.com?

My guess is the poster is confusing some general admonition against the internet with a specific letter banning myspace.com. It may very well be that myspace was mentioned on the platform as an example of a bad site. JWD posters have mentioned previously that talks mentioned specific sites. I had never heard of a letter mentioning it, thought it was far-fetched, but wanted to check it out to be sure.

You know how to find out for sure ... select an unsuspecting JW youth in your area, take multiple photos of him/her and paste them all over MySpace and pretend that you are him/her. Gush the spiritual good news in this person's name to your heart's content.

If this person get's repremanded, then you know something's going on, if not ... well, you just wasted about a year of your life ... no big sacrifice.

Of course we all know local witch hunts do happen. I recently heard a story of a JW who was turned into the elders for using the internet and his/her internet activity was printed out and discussed with him. The only thing about the myspace guy's story that he got wrong was that there was a letter specifying one site, IMO.

I know of an elder that repairs computers. He even sold lap top computers to my twin daughters. He does computer networking stuff at his job. What are they going to do make him quit his job?
It doesn't make any sense that the Society would send out letters ordering elders to get on computers (which they shouldn't have to begin with)...

The Society has never said it was wrong to own computers, work on computers, even use the Internet. What they have done is counseled very strongly about what one views on the Internet and how much time one spends on a computer playing games, on the Internet, or whatever.

Yes, they are afraid of the Internet and they do not want JWs going to "apostate" or anti-JW sites, so they warn of the dangers of using the Internet in a "wrong" manner. They list the seedy side of the Internet, like pornography, to show that the Internet does have evil on it and one has to be cautious about one allows himself to view.

I think ex-JWs hurt themselves sometimes by over stating the facts or embellishing what has been said by the WTS. If a JW sees some of the statements we make like, "JWs aren't supposed to own computers" or " JWs aren't supposed to use the Internet" it just bolsters their belief that "apostates" make up lies about JWs.

We already have a hard enough time trying to show our JW family and friends what's wrong with this religion. We don't need to make it any harder on ourselves by perpetrating or spreading false information.

Regarding the letter. There is a simple way to find out if it indeed did/ does exist. And in fact, was sent out to all congs.

The reply I just received from the Service Dept., from a brother whom I spoke, says, that to his knowledge there is/ was no such recent letter.

Now, he could be wrong. I asked if there would be anyone else, such as the Writing Dept., that I could speak with that may possibly know of such a recent letter. He said no. Well, in my experience, when WTBTS says no, they usually are lying, skirting or evading.

So, if this letter DOES in fact exist, how hard can it be for an elder to HERE, to produce it?

Incidently, I told him that basically those internet warning articles they put out are a waste of ink...no jws online pay any attention to them, as is evident when you see them in action.

    718-560-5000 { ask for the Writing or Service Desk }

Please, go ahead and make a call asking about how jws are to really view the internet and why is it that they even bother writing warnings.

Maybe it actually prompt a and/ or new light {article}.

    Skally,

Well of course he told you there is no such letter!

You forgot to give the secret Masonic password when you heard the cue! If you don't tell him "The Knights Templar rule!" when the person at the other end of the line says "Hello", then he knows not to give you any "good" information.

Just pullin' your chain a little.

But seriously, there is no letter.

    sir82,

Are you in fact an "active elder"?

If so, there would be no way that I would trust what you say about anything re: the WTBTS, at this point.

That is why I made the call, for mySELF. You words are only heresay as well. It is always best to go straight to the supposed source to get confirmation.

The mason stuff is crap, thank you.
