Kingdom Hall construction -- Counting time and reporting travel, meals, and lodging expenses
by FatFreek 2005 ini have two questions.
1. if you work on kingdom hall construction, are you allowed to count your time in lieu of field service?
an old thread here indicated that if you are pioneer, you can count your time.

Life is more than ritual ...
by fulltimestudent injw's are lost in the meaningless ritual of meeting formats (varied occasionally when even the f&ds finally recognises that it has become meaningless) and field service.
the ritual of the field service component has become even more meaningless with the advent of the trolleydollies, just like the old-time practise of carrying an old-fashioned gramophone and some of judge joey's records from house-to-house became meaningless.. can anything shake the witnesses out of their apathetic meaningless rituals?
i'm not sure that can ever happen.. but perhaps there is a lesson for some thinking jws in this story of an old monk lost in his ritual, until something woke him from his self-absorbed view of his world.. https://vimeo.com/61481633.

Catholic Approach to Scripture: How It Made Me Leave the Jehovah's Witnesses
by Hernandez inindoctrinated into all things watchtower, i once believed the bible was true history, that evolution was false and evil, and that the bible could be trusted to be reliable when it touched on science issues.
then i got introduced to the official catholic bible translation of u.s. catholics, the new american bible revised edition (or nabre--not to be confused with the protestant nasv or new american standard version) and things changed.
i was shocked to learn that the nabre teaches.... the creation and flood stories of genesis are jewish adaptations of mesopotamian heathen creation-flood mythology, not history.

Disassociation revealed what type of man my father really is.
by Paul Mooney ini began my exit from the jehovah’s witness organization about 5 years.
i was a 4th generation born-in, with all the baggage that comes with having the “spiritual heritage” attached to the group.
i was an elder/bethelite/pioneer/whatever other useless privilege there was, i had no family or friends outside of the organization… my entire life was that org.

BBC Radio Four Comedy Centering Around Leaving the Witnesses.
by gonzobear ini heard this on the radio last week and thought it was really powerful, amazingly radio four referred to the witnesses as a religious cult, which i thought was progress.
it's a strangely tough listen, i'm sure many of you have been through similar, i know i was, and to hear it presented as comedy seems to add an extra punch.
it's great to see true life stories gaining some media traction.

Jonathon Edwards preached to the Red Indians
by StopTheTears ini never knew that the famous new england theologian jonathan edwards spent some years as a missionary to the red indian tribes.
there are various modern ideas as to how one should preach to those completely ignorant of christ and the way of salvation, but edwards had confidence that the gospel is the power of god unto salvation for all people.
perhaps someday those still living in pagan lands will accept christ and share in the blessings of america.

We are STRONG, NOT Weak!!!
by Divergent intoday's text:.
thursday, october 20. assist those who are weak.—acts 20:35.. you may know from personal experience that it can take time to recover from a debilitating physical illness.
similarly, a christian who has been weakened by personal difficulties or very trying circumstances may need time to regain spiritual strength.

Should every J.W. be an evangelizer/preacher?
by The Searcher inaccording to the wtbts all 1st century christians were evangelizers/preachers, and by extension, all modern-day j.w.
's should be doing likewise.
(for the moment, let's ignore the org's own contradiction that only their elite anointed class are "ambassadors", and that the preaching work was assigned to them!
