Mature Minor - Discussion
by Kismet incountries, states and provinces all have different rules as far as when someone legally becomes an adult.
is it when they turn 16, 18, or 21?
should age be used at all to make such a determination?

Legal Commentary on Blood & Minors
by Kismet incanadian law has strongly affirmed the right to only receive medical treatment after providing "informed consent.".
informed consent in making treatment decisions.
however, both provincial legislation (36) and courts have recognized that some minors may in fact be capable of making their own medical decisions.

Good legal news for Canadian XJW's
by Kismet ini just heard on the news tonight that one of the chief advocates for jehovah's witnesses on the supreme court of canada has retired!
the honourable madame justice claire heureux dube has retired from the bench.
she began her career as an articling student for a montreal based law firm which was used by the society and the then very young glen how to defend them in the matters durrounding the actions of the very anti-jw premier (similar to the us governor) of quebec, maurice duplessis.

Barbara Anderson's Role at Bethel Questioned
by Kismet inboth here and in some private correspondence i have received the role of barbara anderson as detailed in the dateline segment has been questioned.. the main reason is that she is a 'she' and not a 'he' and that 'she's' should not have access to confidential records at bethel.. anyone who served at bethel for any length of time discovered that bethel doesn't always work by the same rules as those they issue to the congregation.. i met barbara while she was in the midst of her proclaimer research.
it was likely just another 'branch tour' to her, but i do remember speaking with her and being impressed by the intelligence behind and shine of her eyes.
a couple of items of interest that should help dispell those who doubt the role she had in brooklyn.

Preparation for Dateline & online interest
by Kismet indateline is just 24 hours (give or take) away.
i really do expect to see a great deal of online activity as people search for more information.
jwd is likely going to be one of the most visited due to the large amount of information posted here on the subject, much by silentlambs themselves.. i also expect to see people visiting randy's excellent site as well as watchtower observer for copies of documentation, news articles, etc.

Suggestion re: Attacks on Bill Bowen
by Kismet init seems that we have many new aliases popping up right now.
all posting attacks against bill bowen personally.. note they cannot argue the facts of abuse occuring but decide to go after one of the faces that represent the whole issue at hand, bill bowen.. it just goes to show how desperate some people become trying to protect their high control religion regardless the cost to children and adult children of past abuse.. i would like to suggest that we adopt the same advice our parent's gave us while growing up as dubs.
just ignore the taunts, the insults.

Good News from Calgary
by Kismet inthe appeal court backed the decision of the lower court judge.. i am not rejoicing that the girl is necessarily getting the blood, tho i certainly like her chances for survival far better this way than with the 'alternative' treatment.
i have long been of the opinion that people have the right to chose medical treatment as long as it is an informed decision .
the court in their ruling support the fact that this girl did not make an inofrmed choice and was under intense pressure from the church, not her own belief.
