Governing Body member David Splane has a new video on tv.jw.org where he talks about all the horrible things committed by Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformers.

His conclusion is that there has been NO Faithful and Discreet Slave on the earth during the past 1900 years (before 1919 I guess.)

He also says that maybe there were a few anointed on earth, maybe not.

He did add an interesting statement that he doesn't condemn the other churches just for misunderstanding the Bible because the Society has done that.

Another odd point, was that he actually mentioned Catholic missionary work in a somewhat positive light, while totally condemning the Reformation views on Predestination.

That's real big of him, he said rather sarcastically.

I suppose David Splane's new video would tie in good with the 2008 Generation belief and the new view that the selection of the anointed did not end in 1935.

By saying now that there may not have been anointed on earth during the past 1900 years before 1919, that gives a basis they can use for explaining why the number of anointed is increasing now: They'll just say God is filling up the spots that remained empty over those 1900 years.

In addition, if they are going back to the 2008 view on "This Generation," that means they'll say Jesus promised their would be anointed on earth until 70 C.E. but not afterward.

And the secondary fulfillment is that Jesus promised there would be anointed on earth from 1914 until the End.

The 2012 teaching that only the Governing Body represents the Slave was described in 1981 as an apostate concept.

    Watchtower 1981 Mar 1 pp.24-26

"Witnesses of Jehovah understand that the "slave" is comprised of all anointed Christians as a group on earth at any given time during the 19 centuries since Pentecost. Accordingly, the "domestics" are these followers of Christ as individuals.

Some readers may feel that this is a rather sectarian view of matters. Or they may object to the idea that the "slave" and the "domestics" represent the same class, one as a composite body and the other as individuals. The objectors may argue that not all of Christ's anointed disciples have a share in preparing the spiritual food, so that perhaps the "slave" pictures only the leading ones, and the "domestics" those they serve in the congregation.

There is no point in trying to force an interpretation of the parable. Self-deception is of no benefit and is spiritually damaging. Therefore, we must look to the Scriptures for an understanding. In doing this, what do we find? [ ... ] Thus we see a clear Scriptural basis for saying that all anointed followers of Christ Jesus make up God's "servant," with Jesus as its Master."

That's interesting and strange. When I was studying I was told that Martin Luther may have been of the anointed, as he tried to bring Christianity back more in line with the bible and away from the false teachings of the Catholic church.

They also condemned the Catholic church much more than the protestant churches because of the use of idols, the teachings of purgatory, paid for masses for the dead, the pope being infallible, infant baptism, and of course pedophile priests.

It now looks like they are flip flopping on that entire line of reasoning. Of course the Jehovah's Witnesses were an off shoot of the Millerites, maybe they are trying to get away from their protestant background and position themselves more in the middle so as to appeal to more Catholics, since a lot of their growth seems to be in Spanish speaking, Catholic countries, or immigrants from them. Pure speculation on my part of course.

They are certainly looking more like the Catholic church when it comes to child baptisms and pedophiles.

So....since Wycliffe, Luther, and others were disqualified because of their belief in predestination, shouldn't the WTBTS presidents and/or GB be disqualified by their previous beliefs on 1874, 1914, 1920, changing blood doctrine, 1975, changing generation teaching, and all the other "old" light. By their definition, assuming they are 100% correct today (which we know they are not), there's only been a faithful and discreet slave for two or three years. Inconceivable!
