Have you ever marvelled, as I have, at the marketing genius that sells us less food for more money? The marketer who came up with the "100 calorie" packaging ploy deserves a consumer's medal.

I am recording my own 100 calorie snack wonders, that are balanced for a diabetic (carb, protein, and roughage). I'll take suggestions, but remember the rules. It has to be balanced. And I like a little crunch.

agree there. We only get half a packet of crisps for more money. lol.

Can't help with the calories I'm afraid. One of them types that can profusely eat anything and everything.

( I have to have carbs, fats and sugars - all the bad things )

*lost*, my co-worker is a skinny minnie who can skip breakfast, eat a fast food at lunch (Teen Burgers are her favorite), and keep her figure. Go figure.

I'm type 2 as well ... I like Balance Bars and Cliff Bars, but you gotta read the label .. they vary from bar to bar... in each brand..

but great OP .. i've noticed that BS marketing too..

and what about a bag of jelly beans with FAT FREE on the label ..WTF... thats makes them a heathy choice ?

    jgnat you diabetic then ?

I have to do physical things, else I don't get up an appetite. (When I was younger sister thought I had eating disorder, anoerixic)

Have no sense of smell, not a foody person, bland stuff does me fine. ( just the basic meat, spuds and gravy )

When I went to work on a farm, I built up muscle. (proper man muscle )

I did get fat twice, once was when I was pregnant with my son, oooh, that was hard going. Second time was after an accident I had, immobilised me.

Did not like being overweight at all ( only the larger bra size was brill, lol )

I think most of it's down to genetics and breeding. But in this modern era, food additives and chemicals have a huge part in obesity, ill-health.

I have a theory that baby foods and formula's have something to do with it too.

RRRR, "fat free" on products that never had fat in them. How about fat free jello? RRRR.

17 Rants in 4 Minutes; "Do not call this cheese!", "Everything is chemicals!...raspberries.." "90 percent fat free is 10% fat!"

Tater-T, I am enjoying some bars I picked up at Costco, GeniSoy. 260 calories a bar. So I take it 1/2 at a time with a glass of milk.

*lost*, my mother was ahead of her time in that she breastfed her children, and severely restricted our sugar intake. A former lab technician, she took a clinical approach to food. Hot dogs were sterilized by timer. Nevertheless, my dad, my sister and I all have type 2 diabetes. My daughter, another one of those skinny minnies, gets a really bad feeling when she eats too much sugar. I suspect she has inherited the same problem I have.

Yes, I never got why anyone woulld be willing to pay more for less food, simply because it is portioned for you. Look at the label and take out 100 calories worth, put it in a baggie, if you cannot trust yourself to take them from the big bag. And most of those 100 calorie packs are so refined you will be hungry again in 15 minutes and going back for another 100 calorie portion.

    My usual snacks

peanut butter on a celery stick: Sweet and crunchy, but no sugar or refined flour, you just have to watch the amount of peanut butter, it's very caloric, but very good for blood sugar.

    1/2 apple with walnuts

    Cream cheese stuffed dates

Rye crisp w/ peanut butter : but I can't do it any more, as I am gluten sensitive

Fat free, plain yogurt, any kind of berry, sweetened with stevia : I like Fage (pronounced Fay ya)

Crackers with hummus, I love the spicy three pepper hummus. or veggies and hummus

Red Bell pepper with ranch dressing, somewhat lacking in protein though

    Low sugar fudgecicles

Dates, stuffed with blue cheese, wrapped in proscuito, but you would probably only do one of these, but they are yummy

A mini protien shake, Yogurt, frozen berries, protein powder, stevia

Peanut butter and dry milk mixed and rolled in coconut

A very small amount of trail mix

half a slice of bread, toasted and topped w goat cheese, and sugar free jelly

Interesting thread. I'm type 2 diabetic and have other metabolic issues as well. I recently got discouraged with taking 12 pills a day, not including supplements, weighing and measuring everything I eat, only to find myself feeling worse all the time. So I let the diet slide. Badly.

The result was that I got a bad infection on my shin after stubbing my toe in October. (I'll never know how stubbing my toe can give me an infection on my shin which was undamaged by the incident). I had to wear an IV for antibiotics for a week, and see nurses every second day for a month to get my dressing changed, as well as a plastic surgeon and infectious disease specialist. It's healed now, but I still have a 1/4" deep hole in my leg. Glad I didn't lose it.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for snack ideas that have little to no sugar or fat.
