  I think you should bore me with some examples, because while you are accusing the liberal media of overreacting, I think FOX and conservatives are overreacting. When Obama expressed condolences over the death of Martin, I did not hear a race/class war in those words. I just assumed that this case touched him on a personal level in some way (he is black, he was a young black man in America, and he is a father) and they jumped all over him. Not that race would be the only reason he would be interested, but I'm just pointing out that he is who he is, and we don't need to get so angry about that. A poster on this board became very anxious over the killing because she has a teenage son---she was effected differently than I was because of her life's experience, and there is nothing wrong with that. It's normal.

  Racism is not gone, but it has drastically changed it's form. It is so very subtle, that those guilty can claim that everyone is overreacting and sensitive. My pastor says it is a death by a thousand cuts. That a person will hear little remarks all day, but if they say anything, then they are overreacting and playing the race card. It has been said that denial of racism is the new racism.

  Now there is a racial aspect to many of the things happening in politics. Whether this is being carried out by true racists, or those that wish send out dog whistles to supporters, does not really matter. It is there. To pretend it isn't is just plain silly. We are humans. This is what we do. And if you bully people into a corner and tell them they aren't even allowed to mention it anymore, it will grow bolder. This job is not done.

  So we can pretend that terms like Foodstamp President, or Urban President are not meant to bring up a racial image, but frankly, we know better. I will not let it pass, because it is disgusting. Everyone knows it is happening, and it is our duty to call it out.

  Yes a black man was elected president. That's a huge success. But have you ever witnessed a president's 'Americanness' questioned to the deep and dirty degree this one has? The accusations of being something other? Muslim, Kenyan, Socialist, where's his birth certificate, what's his secret, he wants to destroy America. . .

  So while I am not quick to call an individual a racist, and I don't believe that most conservatives are racist, I think racists are most comfortable on the conservative side of politics right now. That was not an accident, and politicians know that, and they use that with their coded language and their tropes.

  THE PRESIDENT: Well, I’m the head of the executive branch, and the Attorney General reports to me so I’ve got to be careful about my statements to make sure that we’re not impairing any investigation that’s taking place right now.

  But obviously, this is a tragedy. I can only imagine what these parents are going through. And when I think about this boy, I think about my own kids. And I think every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this, and that everybody pulls together — federal, state and local — to figure out exactly how this tragedy happened.

  So I’m glad that not only is the Justice Department looking into it, I understand now that the governor of the state of Florida has formed a task force to investigate what’s taking place. I think all of us have to do some soul searching to figure out how does something like this happen. And that means that examine the laws and the context for what happened, as well as the specifics of the incident.

  But my main message is to the parents of Trayvon Martin. If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon. And I think they are right to expect that all of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves, and that we’re going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened.

  So Obama was actually answering a question? He didn't bring this up himself? I didn't know that. This really reinforces my original thought that it is not Obama's comment that meant to inflame, but FOX's and friends interpretation of his answer.

  As I said, a black president does not have the luxury of commenting on a tragedy involving a black youth without hair catching fire and accusations flying. And it turns out he was answering a specific question.

  I am fifty percent more disgusted with these reactions than I was 2 minutes ago.

  Yeah----racism is dead.

  My advice to Obama---watch you every move---never do anything that could be interpeted as black----oh wait, you already do that----in that case----keep up the good work. The haters are gonna hate. They accuse Obama of fostering some kind of race/class war, when in reality it is a ploy to make people fearful of a war that they are actually starting.

  NC, it is the "Karl Rove Gambit" - accuse your enemy of that which you, yourself, are guilty.

  In this case, the right accuses the POTUS and the Democrats of "inflammatory rhetoric" regarding race - not the actual culprits: FOX News and the neo-cons, who fan the flames and then when the race wars heat up, blame Obama. Clever, no?

  Watch for the KRG in the coming months - Romney has already given it a whirl with the GOP War on Women:

  See how this works? It is so predictable that it could even be turned in a drinking game during the debates.

  When your opponent manufactures a controversy, you flip the script. And Romney is absolutely right on this point. Plus, it brings up the economic failure of this administration. Two can play at this game.

Perhaps you should start a new thread called "Why the liberal solution of race bating is the solution to fix racism once and for all" - because it sounds like that is basically what your saying, then we can discuss the finer points of this and stay on topic.

  This has got to be one of the most foolish things i've ever heard. Denial of racism at worst is just stupidity, racism has a deeper meaning and carries a connotation of malicious ill-will with it. Is an idiot who denies the holocaust guilty of genocide just because they deny it?

  Just curious I thought you were an atheist, are there atheist pastors?

  I sometimes attend a Unitarian Universalist church for the community. They accept atheists without judgement, and I like the people. I have an entire thread on my experiences there, and why I like attending. Large portions of what they do are quite secular---and atheists and agnostics are often brought up in her sermons as important, contributing members who have a unique viewpoint that we all benefit from.

  So yes, it is weird. And yes, I am an atheist. But I also enjoy this particular church. Which I'm sure seems odd to some, but makes perfect sense to me. And since I became an atheist, I get to make my own rules about how I spend my time, and these people are tops.

  I mostly involve myself with their secular reading and history groups and just enjoy the company of people that are not judgemental or prosylitizing.
