A JW-friendly family member told me that many witnesses have viewed the cutting back of the total number of branch offices around the world and the stopping of the Book Study as positive proof that the organization is ready for the end by helping the brothers and sisters focus on the core witnessing work.
This is very typical. They manage to spin every change that comes about out of absolute necessity or because there was no other option, into something that was planned or intended all along or as part of fulfillment of Bible Prophecy. Out of one side of their mouths they say the Internet is a danger and out of the other they indicate that it's a tool in speeding up the ingathering work.

Surely cheaper to combine the public WT and Awake into one 32 page magazine.
Means losing face though. Even JW's may start to wonder.

Have the WT cover on one side,the Awake cover on the other.
Depending on who comes to the door you can flip it over to interest them...

Since 3/13/2006The main reason given is that it is harder to obtain paper and printing equipment. I wonder if this is correct
It is probably harder to obtain at the cheap rates that the Watchtower is willing to pay
