If you are unsure ask any victum to see what they think. Hello...

    {Depends on what you consider huge. I don't think things are worse in the JWs with pedophilia than in society in general--although I don't have any real data to back up that assertion}

    >

Ya but society in general does not say they are the "MOUTHPIECE OF GOD".

They are not preaching thru the earth that they are the ONLY true followers of God!!!

Jehovah's witnesses say that. They say they are led by gods spirit! Blessed by god.

In that context, even one little victim would be rare!

Once upon a time, I was asked by a relative what they should do: Their bible study was coming to the KH, and there was a convicted pedophile there. After consulting with the elders, they told the relative they COULD NOT tell the bible study about the pedo, it was slander. What to do, what to do?

I told the relative to go to the local newspaper, get a copy of the arrest article, and hand it to the study. Public information, no slander.

This is exactly what the relative did. That way the bible study was in the know.

By the way, this congregation had 3 pedos I knew of, two were convicted felons after being discovered. The other was kept safe by his wife, while his step daughter was DF'd for immorality at a later time. Oh Yeah, he claimed to be annointed!!!

    Minimus,

Ted Jaraz (sp) and Ray Franz agree with you. Bill Bowen, a couple of Ex-cop Elders and some current DOJ agents I discussed this at length with, disagree with you. Hard facts and statistics are impossible to come up with.

I know of quite a few cases in my area. Even a slick Child porn video maker who has out smarted WTBS for YEARS. Uneducated and untrained Elders are no match for real criminals. There will always be a risk of isolated abuse cases but WTBTS has made a mess of the situation by involving themselves and local elders in CRIMINAL CASES.

If the house is on fire we call 911 for the fire Department, not the Elders. Why call the Elders when a child is raped?

Being that my 9 year old child was molested by an ex-elder who molested other young girls...YES!!

So I guess my answer would be YES. BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT "OUTTED" and they have easy access to children.

My current hall has three Molesters. With about 80 active publishers, it would represent a cross section of the population statisticly. However two of the "Perp Brethren" are married to "Church Ladies" and 90% of the JWs have no idea they should avoid these families. They proudly sit in the front rows and answer up a storm. It made my stomach turn.

Wikipedia stats for the population:"The prevalence of pedophilia in the general population is not known, [ 3 ] [ 61 ] but is estimated to be lower than 5% based on several smaller studies with prevalence rates between 3% and 9%. [ 3 ] [ 64 ] "Most sexual offenders against children are male, although female offenders may account for 0.4% to 4% of convicted sexual offenders."

ONE PERCENT is to high for me. I believe in very rural areas of the US the percentage might be MUCH lower due do the amount of secluded land, shotguns, and shovels.

I agree with minimus: It's been overblown in the worst possible way. Of course: even 1 pedophile is 1 too many. I so agree.Yet, hyperbole does not help. To call the witness organization a pedophile paradise is an eggregiously unfair smear. Yes, JWs are concerned about their image; yes, they're prone to accept a literal reading of the 2 witnesses Judiac law code and yes they are quick to become defensive when the issue is raised. In som any ways that is how people in general respond when the topic is raised. The number of times I've heard mothers say, "But I never thought he would ever do that to my children" when talking about the child's stepfather facing police charges. Hell, if mothers can sometimes be blind to what is going on right under their noses, religious orgnaizations are going to be even more vulnerable to it. JWs are no worse - or better - than any other fundamentalist group.
