Do you believe the earth is warming up in your area?
by JH inwe hear so much about global warming, that we wonder if it's a myth or real.
is it just in fractions of a degree or much more.. since posters here are from all corners of the world, i'd like to hear from you, and let us know if you see a difference in the weather patterns in your area, since the last few years.. here, i notice that more people have air conditioners in their homes than before, and most cars have them today.
does this mean that its hotter, or that the population is getting older and people are less resistant to heat?.

Unbiblical rules and sanctions in the WTS
by greendawn indo you know of jws that suffered sanctions due to wts rules that have absolutely no basis in the bible such as going to university or growing beards or refusing to wear suits in fs, reading religious books of other denominations or anything silly?

What about all the people who have suffered and died for refusing an organ transplant (ruling now changed) or a blood transfusion? What about all those who went to prison for refusing alternate work in lieu of military srevice? How about showing up at the meeting in jeans or WITHOUT a neck tie or women wearing pants...Everyone has to be squeezed into the same mold..and it hurts...some more than others.
Someone told my daughter before she quit going to the KH that she could have no more than 2 earrings per ear otherwise she was drawing too much attention to herself with worldly adornments.

a few years ago i know that the wtbts charged 1% above base rate when a local congregation needed funds from the kingdom hall build fund which all had donated to.. does anyone know if this is still the case?.

I think I see the trickle down effect from an organization that teaches rubbish and wants it's followers to look only to them. As always, vitriolic attacks are made on anyone who dares to say anything that might be negative toward the Borg. I think I see in some of the responses a definite need for more education...but then again, how much education do you need to be an eternal fruit picker?...Not that there's any chance of that!

The WT's muffled message: Where's the ``Good News of the Kingdom" in This?
by Room 215 init's been commented on several times on this forum, but it would seem that the billions of hours lavished by jws in purportedly getting their message to the public has been a dismal failure, at least if measured by the extent to which they've been able get their core beliefs (i.e., god's kindom has been established invisibly in 1914 and you had better get with our program or face annihilation -- and soon) -- across to the public.
take a look at some of the front-page titles of this current year's magazines (especially the awake!
which most jws like to feature in preference to the wt) and ask yourselves: where the !#!%!

The good news of the kingdom that the WT tries to shove down people's throats is not the same as Christ's good news is it? Don't remember christ teaching that the org is gods sole channel or a 2 tier salvation arrangement...etc etc
The WT good news is ...gods.going to kill just about everyone..."soon" No more war, poverty, crime famine...because they're all dead...get rid of starvation...kill all the hungry people. This is the real news behind the pretty pictures of smiling fruit pickers in paradise.
Katiekitten got it right...The Awake is rotten, and I'll add...so is everything else about this destructive cult that hides behind lies and deceptions.

Would Jesus give an answer to apostate's questions?
by zagor inwell if we look in bible we would have to conclude: yes he would.
even if we were to assume characteristics that wtbs is attributing to us we would have to say that jesus would still give an answer.
look in matthew chapter 4 where he apparently even gave answer to an ultimate apostate, he was neither silent nor did he try to avoid confrontation, he (jesus) according to bible, even used opportunity to his own advantage.

the WT is a high control organization. They are not really interested in questions coming up through the ranks, questions that call them into account. They are a top down org...they give the orders, everyone obeys. People who question the org smack of disloyalty, they could be trouble makers..
However I think the R&F aren't as willing to blindly obey as they once were...WHY and NO seem to be a more common response.

Inappropriate "shepherding" calls.
by avishai inhow many have recieved calls by the elders that were under the guise of "shepherding", but somehow inappropriate, i.e, you were a woman alone with only one elder showing up, or you felt physically intimidated by both.
or say they show up at like, 10:30 at night for a shepherding call.
and you say "hey, i appreciate the visit but please call first!

When I started missing a lot of meetings one of the elders called me up and asked if they could come over and give me some encouragement...I said OK, when do you want to come? He said he'd get back to me with a time...Fine
Over a year went by ( I kid you not) then he calls again to set up a time. I told him no way you obviously couldn't be bothered in the past...now it's too late, I'm not interested. I also told him that I thought they were rotten shepheards.
After that 2 other elders called to try to meet with me, they even wanted to bring the CO.. I finally told them to leave me alone. They did for a while...
One Sunday morning 2 of them show up while i'm working in my garage...I launched into them...how do you explain this or that...I had them reading scriptures and tying temselves in knots. I remember asking one of them about the change in the Awake...about god's promise that the 1914 generation would not die before the big A...Smart ass elder said he'd check into it and get back to me..guess what? He never did, but then after a while I saw him in Borders bookstore...so I asked him if he'd found the answer to my question about the Awake change...He told me that he did some research but his notes were at home, I asked him if he could give me a hint...No, he couldn't... He never got back to me.
