Governing body thinks that the rank and file are maybe relaxing, letting up and enjoying life in this old system of things a little too much...what to do...load them down with more pointless activities. Personally I think the harder they push the more people will push back. Their mask of being some kind of spiritual guide is slipping.

well, in our cong. service is now "expected" on Saturday.
by ?me? ina few months ago we had a local needs part about supporting the cbs field service on saturday.
it was given by a nice older elder, but what he said was pretty scary.
he used all the phrases and logic that are usually used for meeting attendance.

Should I push him over the edge?
by DannyBloem ini had a long talk with an elder i know very well this morning.
we had a talk about the religion changes, like the 1975 thing etc.
he agrees to me that the gb are not let only by holy spirit, maybe only that has a use for this organisation.

I'd say don't push but don't be afraid to raise questions either or tell him how you feel. Even though he's old he may be quietly searching for something more. Many older ones are bitterly disapointed at the way the society has failed to live up to it's promises and teachings over the years.

JW view on therapy?
by damselfly ini'll start by saying a big hello!
to everyone on the board, i wish i had known about it when i was still a teenager in the religion.
what i am curious about is the jw view on people getting therapy for mental/emotional disorders.

Years ago there was a sister in our hall who always seemed a little 'odd" but suddenly things got worse , she really was going off the deep end. The big wig elder, the city overseer no less was called in...he diagnosed demons...you know the rest ...burn clothes, pictures, furniture. Nothing worked until she ws admitted to hospital and underwent extensive therapy.

New member - quick hello
by melmoth injust registered and thought i'd say hello.
been browsing the board here occasionally for a while, and thought i might want to join in now and then, so here i am.
for me, a lot of this brings up odd memories from long ago - though for many struggling in the jehovah's witless grip currently, it's clearly a lifeline and i wish it had been around when i was 'doing the fade' (as i've seen it referred to, and a great way to put it, btw) nearly 20 years ago.

I'm giving plasma tomorrow!!
by Frog inwell actually i'm giving the whole bit, plasma, platelets, while/red cells...for the first time and i'm very excited!
sounds very massochistic, but it's not for the love of pain, it's just that it's taken me so long to become mentally ofe' with it.
i've had a mental block about it for so long, but have gradually enabled myslef to overcome it by educating myself more fully on the subject.

They were good at running around with sheaves of paper, forms and schedules, they were poor as shepheards. They were just to busy acting like the big shots in the little hall. Most were lousy at giving talks etc. Meetings were mind numbing...awful and that was their fault

KM School, Private "letters", Elders Mtgs, and your point is........?
by upside/down ini've never understood something... all the political elbowing for superiority and right to brow beat the flock and have a facade of respect due to and unearned, but rather siezed position and the wts can't fix it with all the "provisions from j"?.
i've been to km school, read the "letters" from "mother" and sat through endlessly boring bickerfests meetings.
all the old timers and the politically motivated and upwardly mobile kiss asses ms and elders are in such a tizzy to go to these so they can have "one up-manship" over the rest of the flock (apparently being "in the know" is very titilating).. i remember that most of the counsel from the wts seemed "good", especially that geared toward how ms and elders should conduct themselves and treat the flock.

I think there is a real disconnect between the Org. and the average JW. Once it was only due to the fact that they lived in a completely different world...Bethel, but now they're also wrapped up with so much legal stuff and worries about lawsuits etc and trying to look good that it's separating them even further from the flock. I think it's filtering down to the local elders who after, all get their power from the borg, the society says this, the society says that...but the society has nothing new and really relevent for today. It's the same old do as we say and you'll get your ticket to paradise, but most people can see through that. I think a lot of elders are getting really tired of it too.

I'm Happy Today
by Why Georgia in.
well today is my wonderful husbands' birthday.. when we were first together he didn't want presents, cake, no celebration at all.. last night he was so excited about his gifts he opened one in the middle of the night.
he wants pizza for his birthday dinner and to go out for ice cream instead of a birthday cake.. i just feel happy that he's come so far and doesn't see birthdays as some evil happening.. wg

Doesn't it feel good to celebrate something good. Only a bunch of nutters would turn something good into something bad and then say that its pleasing to god that we view the good as bad. Does this sound messed up? Are they messed up? I think it's stupid that JW's are allowed to celebrate the birth of a child before it arrives ( baby showers) but once it's here...oh no never again. Rejoyce!
