Staying "Loyal" and King David/Saul Question...
by Confucious inok.... had a good discussion with a jdub friend.
good friend.. and i gave the argument, "hey.., loyalty to god trumps loyalty to organization.".
basically, that when your concious disagrees with "god's organization" that you should stand up and say something.. then he gave me a good point about king david and how saul was the organization at the time but since it was god's appointed one - that david didn't work to "overthrow" saul.. thoughts?.

Length of the Israelites' Egyptian Sojourn: An Unsolvable Bible Error
by John Kesler inin exodus 12:40-41, we find this very specific statement:.
40 the time that the israelites had lived in egypt was four hundred and thirty years.
41 at the end of four hundred and thirty years, on that very day, all the companies of yahweh went out from the land of egypt.. the problem is that this is at odds with the genealogy in exodus 6:16-20:.

John...
I'm not a JW appologist. Nor do I need to somehow JUMP to the defense of the Bible.
But only pointing out the explaination to this...
And you don't have to believe his explaination. But at least you can see how it's possible.
Exodus 6 is talking about Litteral Years that people lived.
Exodus 12 is using Regnal Dating. It's the SAME dating a LOT of people used back then.
It's called Regnal Dating.
It was used back then.
It goes by how long a monarch RULED for.
The reason why dates vary - is because of parrellel dynasties - (Two competing kings ruling at once) - an co-kingdoms (Father and Sons)
We don't go by this today.
But THEY did back then.
It's kind of like Bush era can be said span 20 years.
Herbert Walker for 4 years - a break of 8 years for Clinton and W for 8 years.
We don't count years like that. But they did it that way back then.
So that's why the dates don't match.
One is talking about literal year people lived.
The other is using Regnal dating.
Also...
We KIND of do this today...
Kind of like someone that says, "It took me 7 years to get my Bachelor's Degree from a college.
Did it REALLY take him 7 years?
It takes 4 years to get a Bachelor's degree. But he took classes 2 years as full time. Stopped for a year. Went pack part time for 3 years. And then took another 1 years to finish it up full time.
We all know it takes 4 years of actual time (per se) to get a Bachelor's Degree.
So here... depending on hour you look at it... you can say that it took 8 sememsters to finish your Bachelor's degree. And so some might count that as 4 years. Or... you might say it took 7 years - but it was still the same 8 semesters.
But most people count it from the begining of when the started - till they got it .
So that's the explaination.
And believe me. Not an apologist of any sorts here.

SD-7...
I'm on the road a lot and I listen to a lot of Christian radio.
The "surprise" of it all?
It's all the same - per se.
It's just that JW act like only they have the Bible.
They talk about witnessing (and yes, the use that word too.)
They know all the stories and their applications.

Funniest Talk or Weird Things That Happened In Your Hall.
by Nephilim inthere is always at least 2 or 3 really crazy persons in the kingdom hall.
the kind of person that when they raise their hand the speaker on stage knows he's taking a gamble if he calls on them - yet he can't discriminate.. anyhow, i remember one time a younger brother was doing sound and one of those crazy brothers was about to give his 5 minute talk (i forget what number that was, prior to them just reading scripture).
the crazy brother slipped the young brother doing sound a cd and said "play this when i get on stage".. well, he gets up on stage and all of a sudden hawaiian music starts playing... the man on stage just starts dancing.

LMAO on some of these comments.
Dissed - Hahahha... Twilight Zone.
I remember on Sunday afternoon. It was seriously like 90 degrees out that the KH air conditioning went out.
And we were doing the meeting and old people were passing out.
And people were carrying them out to the back. Reminds me of that Monty Python movie - "Bring out Yer Dead... Bring out Yer Dead."
So the Bro is doing the Watchtower and old people were passing out left and right.
But it was like... what is the Bro going to do?
It's like we're reading a Watchtower on our brothers suffering through concentration camps and we can't take a little no air conditioning?
It was just bizarre - I'm glad no one died.

A term that put me in my cult mind set...but only for a second
by doublelife ini was just hanging up my husband's shirts and started on the section where he had his dress shirts.
but what i thought in my head was "meeting shirts.
" and i quickly realized that i have to start saying "dress shirts" instead.

Confucious
Hahaha...
This is a great thread.
I forgot about those terms... "Meeting Clothes."
I remember having "Meeting Shirts" and "Field Service Shirts."
The difference between the two, is that the Field Service Shirts were made of cotton (vs. that Polyester blend.)
Good times... good times...

Have you had Dreams Lately ? Do you get Meanings from your Dreams?
by flipper inbeing very interested in psychology i read a book as a teenager and re-read it last year called " gestalt therapy verbatim " by frederick perls m.d.
ph, d. .
it deals with dreamwork therapy in which he conducted seminars helping people to re-connect with subconscious parts of themselves by recounting their dreams .

Restrangled...
I had the same dream as you. Basically though, I was on vacation at my parents home (the one I grew up with) and I can't get back.)
And too... I'm late for High School classes.
Plus the urgency to get back home is the nightmare part. No matter what I do, I can't get back.
And my pets are back home and I can't call anyone to feed them.
I've had this same dream for 10 years. And like you... maybe once a month.
I can't interperet yours in particular. But I'll tell you how I interpreted mine.
Me personally? I'm the Frog that became a Prince.
I had a very unfullfilling time growing up and in high school.
I never had a girlfriend. I was never successful in anything I did. A failure in most if not all things I've done.
Then I moved away from home - more than 800 miles - when I was 18.
I made a new life for myself. It took a while. I spent 10 years as a JDub.
But eventually... I became very successful. Even while still as a dub.
But the past 10 years - I've been having this reoccuring nightmare.
Started maybe around 28... when my success began to rise.
Those dreams were aweful. Basically stuck somewhere. Wanting to get back so bad. ButI can't.
So here's how I interpreted it.
Finally I realized that I'm never going to escape from the past - because that is who I am.
I might be living like a prince, but I'm still that frog.
Same guy.
So a realized that and I set out to live like that.
Not to say that during my life - that I was ever a jerk.
But people who are a jerk don't always recognize it.
But I made it a point to live my life like I'm "renting" this situation.
I have it really good right now.
It's a fantasy life.
But now I make it a point to treat those around me with diginity - knowing that I'm lucky to be here in my unique situation.
And the dreams stopped.
