this question has been bugging me for a while now .

since the last thread on the biblical flood.. it's like this .

.. immediately prior to the flood, jehovah had deemed the earth full of badness, totally wicked and "ruined" .

PS, yes I am aware of that as well. There is a long history of natural disasters of many kinds throughout history. However I am saying that the specific story regarding the Angels coming to earth to chase skirt and one family building such a fantastic structure and shuffling animals into it and saying the earth had never rained before and it rains untill there is no more land anywhere all because the Divine Host is *issed off.

If you beleive that - I have some swamp land if Florida I think you should invest in. As the man said in the Movie - Don't be so gullible McFly.

Actually the flood is an imaginary fairy tail, akin to other stories of folklore and fantasy. I really am enjoying the series Game of Thrones on HBO and am a huge fan of Frodo Baggins, but I have sense enough to know that Dragons and Elves are not real.

I would submit that anyone who thinks the story of the Noah's ark and the flood is factual, is lacking some critical thinking ability,,,,,,

Apostates part from 2011 DC Symposium

i just got through listening to the part on apostates.

.

they basically ignored any true questions or critisisms in favor of an ad hominem character attack on apostates.. they made the assertion that "apostates" are 1-prideful, 2-ingrateful, 3-impatient.. anyone that's listened care to discuss the part?.

It is just sheer nonsense. The term "Apostates" is deliberately demogogued and used to create an emotional negative response in the subscribers (publishers). It is one of those terms that the the Rank and File really doesnt know what it really means, but it creates a powerful emotional response. I liken it to one of the the scenes in the movie "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers", you know when an actual sane and uninfected person is spotted by the infected alien people and they start pointing and making that horrifying sound. "Apostate"aaaaaaaaagggggggggghhhhhhhhhh (pointing).

I am not politically correct at all, but if I were - I would accuse the "Society" of using Hate Speech, derogetory terms to degrade and falesly represent innocent and good people.

i know it's not the lightest of topics but the current news coverage of the pope's final hours made me wonder if i'd face things as calmly as he is reported to be doing.

i don't have his faith, or any faith anymore, but i can see how for a true believer that would be a source of strength.. the thing is, a lot of us thought we'd never die.

do you really comprehend what a truly massive mind-fuck that is?

Yes it is interesting how vile the "Truth" is when you open the veil and shine a flashlight. This what happens when you hand over the "keys" to your God given gift and responsibility to think for yourself. Any religion that does not allow for individual thought and coerces it members into activity contrary to normal human behavior is a cult. For what it's worth, I held a committee meeting of my own regarding the organization and I have "disfellowshiped" the entire religion for a number of grave offenses of which they are unrepentant.

there are many reasons why but i wonder if there could be a dominant mental mechanism at work?.

i've done a bit of research and written this article on the subject.. the comparisons between stockholm's syndrome and jw behaviour are striking.. what keeps a jw in the religion?.

Fear is the main mechanism used to keep people in the Religion. And from my own experience being raised as a Witness, it was fear of man and not fear of God. I never feared God deep in my soul. But I was conditioned to fear the "organization", the "Elders", the PO, the Circuit Overseer, The FDS, the Service Department. They were all representation of a humanly power structure that were assigned the absolute power over the subjects (the publishers). They even had the power to execute people (Disfellowshipping = Spiritual Death), the ultimate weapon which is always on display like a sword someone carry's on thier side.

Thank fully I was able to break free from the repression. However it was with a price as my entire family has outcast me and my family and thinks that blind alegiance to the Religion means we must be shunned.

But i no longer live with fear and am fully enjoying and finding meaning in this life.

No memorable talks at assemblies? Sorry to sound cynical!

i used to give public talks from the rigid outlines from borg hq.

i remember altering some talks from 45mins to 30mins.. this was great because before we were given 30min scripts i could take licence and pick and choose which bits i felt were more christian.

before my exit i gave resisting the spirit of the world 30min with my own spin on true christian love.

An update on my recent developments

my last visit to kingdom hall was on memorial day.

since then i have decided skip to meetings and preaching.

the co and his wife visited my congo in the last week of april.

Unlike the cult member's drone above that says 'TRUST IN JEHOVAH" (code speak for only Listen to the organization and ignore your own sensibilities and intellect), I urge all people to trust in your God Given senses. Read and Reason from many sources. The Witness Cult has no allowance for any other thought or beliefs, they must control your every thought and action. Forget what you think you know or have been taught and ask - Does this really make sense? Does it compute? Does it pass the sniff test?

At the end of the day, you must have the courage of your convictions. If you want to participate in the Witness procession, do it if it meets your need. If it does not, then do not feel bad about saying no. You do not have to justify your life to anyone but you.

this was all about the issues being addresssed in russia and how the j.w.

's were being oppressed/repressed.. but if you look in the box to the left under "a note to the citizens of russia", you will see that they quote the scripture in luke 12:2 "there is nothing carefully concealed that will not be revealed, and secret that will not become known.".

You sound like a parrot. The most miserable and hypocritical families I have ever known in life are Witnesses. It always amazes me that the people "inside the fishbowl" can't comprehend that the people "outside the fishbowl" are actually well adjusted, happy, content and fulfilled. Those are all things I never experienced in my long "Witness Career", but discovered when the curtain behind the wizard of oz was lifted and the world actually started making sense to me.

Witnesses thrive on oppression, and use it as proof that they are the "one true religion". However the list of religions and its members who have been oppressed and perscuted is rather long. Mormons, Scientologists, Catholics, Prodestants, Hindu's, Feng Shui etc,,,,

Why don't they ask the searching question - why don't they like Witnesses in so many places? Why don't employers want to hire them, live next door to them, talk to them?

Could it have something to do with the fact they are not good citizens? Because they have a twisted and sardonic view of the world they don't function well and contribute to society as "normal" people do?

The problem with people that live with the idea that God is an exterminating genocidal killer and you claim to worship and follow a figure like that, you don't think or behave in a normal manner. Hence the reason so many witnesses suffer in life with so many maladies, they give up on living this life in the desperate hope that there will be some magical chance to live and enjoy life elsewhere (paradise, new system, Disney world or some such rediculous idea).
