have been gone from the board for a month or so, but i have read with great interest some of the stories about very recent "elder" schools from actual attendees.
i thought some might like to know about my experience in one of these in the very early 70's.
i was pioneering where the need was great (clinton, okla.) and was made assistant cong.
Originally these schools were only for what was then called the Congregation Servant. They were held at Watchtower Farm, I think...The class ran for a full month, so those who quit their jobs or endured some other alleged hardship in order to attend the school were held in estimable honor before all the other slackers in attendance who might be wealthy enough to pay their own way. Later Assistant Congregation Servants were invited to the two week schools. After the elders arrangement went in effect, similar two week schools were held throughout the country. The schools were long on intimidation and some who were then elders came away from the school no longer serving as one. There were a number of pompous twits that I remember who were instructors, most old time CO's or DO's. One was Bruce Giffin a really rude man who didn't have much use for people.
The Davis you mention was most likely Randall Davis. He really thought a lot of himself in those days. Last I heard he left Bethel, but I don't know for certain.
will you walk with god?

Blondie, this happens to be my favorite scripture. They've missed the point by taking a snippet of the verse for their platform pablum of a sound bite.
"He has told you, O earthling man, what is good. And what is Jehovah asking back from you but to exercise justice and to love kindness and to be modest in walking with your God?" NWTor this slant from another:
"But he's already made it plain how to live, what to do, what GOD is looking for in men and women. It's quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, And don't take yourself too seriously-- take God seriously." (The Message)
This one verse if practiced in one's daily life is the embodiment of what Christ taught. The Borg continues to proffer more rules, followed by interpretations of the rules, and then secret rules told only to elders for enforcement of the rules. Is it any wonder that the sheep wander about in sadness instead of with joyous hearts?
It's this uncaring attitude that led first to my resigantion as an elder and then my fade.
in the spring of 1967 district overseer charles sunutko gave in sheboygan, wisconsin, the talk, "serving with everlasting life in view"
a recording of that talk is available on the internet at several places, easily found by a google search.. but who is (was?
) charles sunutko?.
Try this again.
Chuck Sinutko was a CO and then a DO. We ran in to him in
Some may remember his singing the song From House to House at the special meeting held in when Harold King returned to the . Word has it that Nathan “the beak” Knorr was not impressed. In recent times his singing reappeared in the ill received, and poorly produced CD, “Singing Kingdom Songs”. In concept this CD was to have been a nice representation of some of the better Kingdom songs. Karl Klein and his lackey Joe Spinelli pushed through the final and awful rendition that was finally released.

it's not every day you get something for free but a 'kindly' credit card company rang to offer a 0% deal on balance transfers or cash advances with a 2% fee capped at 50. hmmmnn .... i figure a 15,000 loan for 50 ain't bad and will earn a several hundred quid if i just stick it in a high-interest account (and pay it right back before the 0% period is up).
should pay for a new xbox 360 .
must ... resist ... urge ... to spend ...
There is no free lunch. Just beware of using that card for anything else. Most cards offering this program will allow interest charges on any purchases made using the card to accrue until the entire loan balance is paid.
Otherwise it's a good deal.
in another topic on the recent education issue of the watchtower society, this question came up.
below is what i wrote on that topic.
i was wondering if anyone else remembered this?.
He's not the only one to benefit by having schooling paid for from the donations of the lowly publisher class.
At least two Bethelites have been sent to law school. Just heard that some have or were being sent for EMT training.
Of course this higher education is for a purpose that has been given the imprimatur of the GB so all you slovenly, slotful sheep should overlook this.
i was curious if anyone has any thoughts on why the two new members of the gb haven't beeen announced on the society's web site?
they were appointed on august 25 according to what i have read here, but no one in my congregation has said anyhting about it.
i know it is still a little early for it to be in the watchtower, but don't they usually post this kind of news at jw media?.
They are not likely to give credence to the internet by making such an anonuncement there before it's written in the Watchtower, the only channel dubs are to trust.
7 let us rejoice and be overjoyed, and let us give him the glory, because the marriage of the lamb has arrived and his wife has prepared herself.
1 and i saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the former heaven and the former earth had passed away, and the sea is no more.
2 i saw also the holy city, new jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from god and prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Are we victims of yet another P&R (post and run)?
ok, earlier i was sitting here on the pc, when my mum comes in and says it looks like i've got a lump behind my ear, i go and have a look, and she's right, there's a lump one side, but not behind my other ear, so i'm pretty sure it's not part of my skull.
now i didn't notice this before.
but after i was told about it, i swear it's starting to hurt... is it worth getting checked out by the doc, or is it one of those things you can leave and it'll go away?
Could be a sebaceous cyst as these are quite common. It's always a good idea to have any anamolies checked by your physician.
Hope things go well for you.
