atheists believe that god should stop the large-scale injustice on earth; if he does'nt, then he does not exist.
jws believe that god will intervene sometime in the last days!.
interestingly, both throw themselves on their own expectation of soemthing god should or will do, yet in fact something god does not have to do.

I don't understand - what is the point of prayer then?-Sir82
I don't believe God listen's to prayers or answers them, I think prayer is talking to yourself. Meditating and thinking things through. It helps me gather my own thoughts, I suppose it's a habit too. Is there a purpose for me? No I don't think so. But I find myself praying now and again, but less than I used to.

Viv - I am not entirely sure why you are asking me questions. Is it possible you're motives are to be deliberately facetious? Do tell why are you asking me off topic questions?-Kate xx

If your god is evil, why is there so much good in the world?
If your god is good why the suffering?-cofty
I did not say God was evil or good, IMO God is indifferent, he cares about no one or nothing and just creates complex things in nature, which nuture our desire to explore creation and evolution and nuture our desire to create and invent also. There is much pleasure and beauty in all this gaining of knowledge. Many are passionate about discovery and are driven by their sense of intrigue.
Kate you are an atheist - you just haven't realised it yet.-cofty
I have to admit I have been less vocal with God of late and not really praying that much, I did pray this morning about how isolated I felt, then my daughter replied to my text. I put it down to circumstances, not some magical being answering my prayers. If I had not texted there would have been no dialogue. I was thinking through my situation in my head. But listen cofty, young man I am no atheist niether was Einstein, my beliefs are very similar to his and Spinosa's God. I am unique though with a unique set of beliefs that make me happy.
I believe in God the Creator.

So how do you account for beauty & pleasure?- cofty
The universe is mathematically perfect but it looks pleasureable and beautiful too, it also is dangerous to life forms in some ways.
Good point, the way I see it is in guided processes and evolution. God as the creator is the spark, beauty and pleasure are the result of guided processes, suffering and deformaties are a result of evolution left to it's own devices in unguided formations of nature. Similar to wear and tear of manmade objects. Eventually there will be a flaw in the process.
Beauty and pleasure are also in the eye of the beholder, not everyone see's beauty and pleasure the same. It boils down to taste. Likes and dislikes.
This is all my own philosophy of beauty and pleasure, nothing factual.

It does prove beyond all reasonable doubt that the god of christian theism, the god and father of Jesus christ, does not exist.-cofty
JWs and many theists would answer it just proves that the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one Satan. 1John 5:19. IMO this is also total nonesense, humans don't need to see how suffering works in order to worship a benevolent God, total rubbish.
But natural disasters do not prove that God does not exist, just because there is suffering in the world it does not ditract form the premise there is an intelligent creator, who is likely indifferent to human suffering.

since i kicked up a fight regarding shunning at my local supermarket, i am still angry.
because, only this morning i received a look of contempt from one of my ex-friends/sister.. i really feel like telling her what i think of her behaviour but i guess that would only enforce the "persecution complex"!!!!.
just venting.
I also am one to engage in idle chit chat if I see a JW. Smile, wave and ask them how they are. It make me feel better se I am sending the message that I don't exercise shunning in my life. Kate xx
sorry, couldn't think of a better title for this post, without it being long.. i was thinking this morning,if ex-jws, who were born into the group less likely to join another religion after leaving.
vs. the witnesses who belonged to a church before joining the religion.. from my own prespective, being raised a witness,i have no intention of joining any religion.
and it seems that born-ins are less likely to join a religion after leaving the cult.. in my own experience,i think it's religious burn-out to tell the truth.
I was born Jewish, but believe in a creator, became a witness at 20. I have no desire to join another group. I have been burnt too much. I am volunteering now that suits me fine for the moment. Kate xx
i haven't come across any arguement that does not involve secular history and external references.
in fact the wt can not get to 607 bce without using external sources as in knowing that they need to get back from 1914 ce to 607 bce, and botching an argument using an external date as reference to create their start point at 537 bce.. i realize that to get the final date we must provide a fixed figure from somewhere which can only be a historical source, but the objective would be to disprove the wt flim flam.
once that is achieve we can use which ever fixed historical point they wish to chose.
Paul, jwfacts,
Fantastically simple and to the point. You are the man. Well done for your site. Kate xx
so, i am in washinton state visiting my son and his family and we went to a concert that had a fortune tellers booth, actually a gypsy wagon.
i decided to do something no jw would ever do, have a tarot card reading.
i wasn't really expecting anything, as i don't believe they are connected with the satan, but i don't believe they can actually read your future either.
Why do we actually want someone to tell our future? I don't see the purpose in any of these pursuits and I don't believe they are real. I don't believe that God really cares about us enough to contact us, so if there are other supernatural beings out there why don't they just make contact with us properly.
What is with a medium of some kind?
I think it's a way to exploit people when they are in need, much the same as WT. There are always people and organisations willing to take advantage of the vulnerable. If I have a spare £5 I may try it out, but I certainly won't believe they can tell the future. We make our own future.
