this is a web site that may interest many readers here.
not only is there a critical evaluation of the creation book, but dimaggio sent letters to the wt.
their response is of course pathetic.
I appreciate the link - thank you.

did anyone else see the witness who was interviewed on the today show as a friend of the jackson family in support of michael?
in light of all the child abuse mess within the organization you would think that they would stay away from that one.
gretchen
I didn't see it but can't imagine anyone in good standing would go on TV about this. Could it have been an friend from when he was young and the family were witnesses?

massachusetts backs gay marriage the us state of massachusetts has ruled in favour of gay marriage.
the state's supreme judicial court ruled that that barring same-sex couples from the benefits of civil marriage was "unconstitutional.
Here's a quote from the Human Right's Campaign:
Key results from the ruling:
1. Same sex couples in Massachusetts who choose to obtain a civil marriage license will now be able to: -Visit each other in the hospital, without question;
-Make important health care and financial decisions for each other;
-Have mutual obligations to provide support for each other;
-File joint state tax returns, and have the burden and advantages of the state tax law for married couples; and
-Receive hundreds of other protections under state law.2. Churches and other religious institutions will not have to recognize or perform ceremonies for these civil marriages. This ruling is not about religion; it?s about the civil responsibilities and protections afforded through a government-issued civil marriage license.
3. By operation of law, all married couples should be extended the more than 1,000 federal protections and responsibilities administered at the federal level. Because no state has recognized civil marriage for same-sex couples in the past, the so-called Defense of Marriage Act has not yet been challenged in court.
4. Other states and some businesses may legally recognize the civil marriages of same-sex couples performed in Massachusetts the same way they treat those of opposite-sex couples.
The Boston-based Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) brought the case on behalf of seven gay and lesbian couples after they were denied civil marriage certificates solely because they were same-sex couples.
"GLAD and Mary Bonauto, its leading lawyer, did an outstanding job arguing this case with professionalism and passion. This tremendous victory would not have been possible without their exemplary efforts," said Birch.
The Human Rights Campaign signed onto a "friend of the court" brief in Goodridge to support and further explain the case for extending civil marriage rights to same-sex couples under the state constitution. A variety of other civil rights organizations, religious groups, child welfare experts, family and legal historians and others also either signed or filed briefs of their own in favor of extending civil marriage laws to same-sex couples.

I'm sure there will be efforts to void it, but it's a step in the right direction.
my husband is agnostic, and i really have not been able to find a religion that i am comfortable with.
the last year or so i have really been missing having something community based and a wee bit spiritual to belong to, especially since moving to texas, where i know just a few people and oh my god...everyone down here seems to go to church.
an organization that does not make me feel like i have to look at others and view them as bad becasuse they dont believe as i do.. my husband and i have been joking that we needed to find a church of irreverence...but then i started re reading the uniterian universalist posts, and checked out the local website.
I think you'll be comfortable with UU's. I joined our local "chuch" about five years ago. I went all the time at the beginning with my young kids and it was a good community for all of us. If you disagree with something, just say so; dissent is welcome. My first question was "is this a christian based church?" Ours wasn't, though they may differ; isn't that nice! I don't go much right now, and that's ok, too. There are many social action groups to work with and much support of charities, very giving. Let us know how it goes.

is it just me, or does the dub lifestyle encourage astounding degrees of laziness?
we're expected to sit quietly at the meetings and be spoon feed repititious information without thinking for ourselves.
dubs are discouraged from making any decisions without the counsel or approval of the society.
I don't know if it's so much that they're lazy but that they just don't care about anything. They're not allowed to care; hobbies, outside reading, entertainment are looked down upon. There's nothing intellectual really going on.
Unfortunately, the dub's will probably "heed the counsel." Let's not give women too much notice, even in such a negative context.
anything in particular, or was it a combination of things??
?
I can identify with Tink,
well, i initially left because i came to realize that i couldn't go on living as a witness any longer. i didn't even care if it was the truth or not, to be perfectly honest; i knew that i'd rather be destroyed at armageddon than to continue to be that miserable for one scrap of a second longer.
I really considered myself "inactive" until I began visiting this forum. And, yes, the lack of love in my last congregation. I can't lump every congregation I was in with the last one, but I, too, found normal people to be much more giving and loving. How the "brothers and sisters" can call being cold-hearted and shunning an act of love has always been beyond me.
Emma
well, actually, i did, but with the blessings of the family.
it's fake (too many allergies in the house to risk a real one), pre-lit, and 7 feet tall.
i think it's going to be gorgeous.
You'll love having a tree. I still get up at night during the season and turn the lights on just to make sure it's still there! Our first year, the tree was sparse with ornaments. I bought the plain, colored glass balls. They're inexpensive yet pretty. Now, I have a few of them left for memories, but everyone gets at least one new ornament each Christmas. We couldn't afford a beautiful tree topper that first year, so my daughter made a star out of yellow felt. Though I can now afford one, I just will never replace that yellow, felt star at the top of the tree.
