I have a friend who just finished her Masters in theology and is on her way to being an episcopal priest. We talked about this record and she says it was clearly a literal sacrifice. (Doesn't mean god approved...

Jephthah's Daughter
by cantleave ini have read somewhere that jephthah's daughter did not really go into temple service but was a victim of ritual sacrifice.
the bible says that after weeping over her virginity that the maidens would visit her annually.
how could they visit her if she was killed?.

Volunteer work and preaching - It's a lie
by Iwonder17 init hit me the other day, when a jw goes to a door and says, we are doing a volunteer work today.... .
no they arent.
they have to go in service every month as a requirement to stay in the club, if not, they become inactive or irregular.

I agree. There's a jw woman in our building who works full time and "volunteers" 70 a month. I've often thought that it is not volunteer work, it's required for Everlasting Life in Paradise and for being in Good Standing in the congo. A coworker was impressed until I told her what the "volunteer" work was.

Life is full of coincidence but I think most of those experiences are fabricated or at least greatly embellished. I think you find them in most belief systems as a way to validate their "faith."
edited to say that, yes, I did believe them... but not since having the blinders removed!

Are the JW's just as superstitious as any other religion?
by dissed inthree years ago, my wife's jw sister of 55 became seriously mentally ill. hallucinations, hearing voices, acute paranoia, physically acting almost like a child.
her and her husband, both have a masters in education, while he also serves as an elder.. why the background?
because its their belief, even with their education, the demons are causing her problems and we, my wife and i, were the ones bringing the demons into her life.. for three years, she goes undiagnosed, while he refuses to get her medical help.

They are very supersticious, just deluded into believing that their religious supersticions are the "real" ones. Did she ever get help?

Family Worship -- a page at the end of 10/15/09 WT
by sd-7 inin reading this short article, oooooh, let's just post some quotes:.
page 32, paragraph 1:.
"last year, the governing body announced an adjustment to the congregation meeting schedule that allows more time for bible study and discussion as a family.

I think Keven/Kevin is a figment of their imagination. Can you believe any adult would write such drivel, especially an elder who should have been having "family study" with his family long before the new arrangement? And they make it sound so desperate!
We "always" had a family study according to my ex's time slip (and we all know how accurate those things are!).

How did you changed after becoming a JW
by feeling good inan old friend of mine came by to do my daughters hair for a wedding while i was shopping.
my daughter was asking about how i was when we hung out (prior to the organization).
she told my daughter i was very funny and everyone wanted to be around me.

Emma
I'm much happier, therefore more fun to be around. I'm a better person, more forgiving and accepting. I'm healthier, much, much, healthier. I live in the present, don't put off good things for some future fantasy.

Secret Santa Wish List 2009
by Lady Lee infor those of you who signed up for the secret santa 2009 list here is where you give your secret santa an idea of things you might like.
it's hard enough to give gifts to people you know nevermind people you have never met.. so bearing in mind the $15 limit give us an idea what your favorite interests, colors are, or what things you might like.. in the past people have suggested something for their new christmas tree, a book, a cd of their favorite music, something from where their secret santa lives (something with the city's or country's name on it or an widely known item.. once people get their name they will be able to check back here to get an idea of what your interest is before they go shopping.. if you say "anything" or don't post then expect a surprise..

I'd like a gift to a charity in my name, too. Second Harvest, or Avalon Housing in Ann arbor MI. The latter made my life so much easier when newly out of the org and an abusive marriage. I know Avalon does good work.
If you prefer to send things, I like UNscented candles, jams, dark chocolate, a christmas ornament or cd or a surprise.
NOTE to Nos; no WT lit if you get my name, thank you very much!
