When I was in Central Pennsylvania in the early 70's there was a body of elders I think was entirely deleted. The PO actually ran everything. He gave the talk and conducted the wt study every week. (the exception was when they had a visiting elder to give a talk), and ran the service meeting and ministry school basically taking over both hours. One young pioneer brother tried to tell others in the circuit and was nearly df'd himself. Finally an elder from a cong in the same circuit listened to him and dropped in on a Sunday afternoon. The "society" finally was involved and sent a committee. The offending brother left, taking a good chunk of the congo with him. They all met in his house for the meetings. I don't know how everything finally ended up but it was a big scandal. This brother was really looked up to in the circuit as he got lots of young people in his congregation to pioneer, and he and his wife also pioneered. I remember lots of Friday evening circuit assemblies being built around this guy. My pio partners and I felt there was something icky about him from when we first moved into the circuit.

Sacking of entire bodies of elders
by yaddayadda ini once heard about nearly an entire body of elders in a congregaton that got demoted/sacked from being elders because of some scandal in their congregation that they collectively covered up or didn't deal properly with.
i think it was about some relative of a dominant elder that should've got disfellowshipped but they all brushed it under the carpet.
the branch heard about it and sent a circuit overseer especially out to investigate it and he sacked nearly all of 'em and some new ministerial servant school graduates were quickly assigned to come in and take their place.

Watchtower logo on side of kingdom hall
by cyberdyne systems 101 inmy old kingdom hall has the watchtower logo built into the brick work on the side that faces the road - to me for a hall that is supposed to be dedicated to god, its a bit wrong to have a corporation logo on the side of it.
maybe its there to show they and not the congregation own it???
cs 101.

I went to a congregation in PA once that met in a former church. They broke out all the stained glass windows and sawed off the steeple, then made it to look like a watchtower. Of course this was about a hundred years ago, lol.

I'm so glad to hear this. I have a friend whose five year old is undergoing treatment for cancer. The prognosis is quite good. It's good to be near great medical care.

Do you know why I returned your money?................
by lovelylil inbecause i am one of jehovah's witnesses!
remember these parts in the assembly?
some "worldly" person looses a large stash of money and then the jw returns it and brings glory to jehovah's name?

Yes! I had two of my grandmother's rings disappear! I'm sure they weren't worth a whole lot of money, but one was a small diamond set in gold and the other an emerald. They were old and were about all I had from her. I still try not to think so hard about the loss.

So when do you put up your tree?
by restrangled ini hope you all had a great thanksgiving..... my husband was so inspired he went up to the attic and dragged down our tree the same day (the 23)... i have been decorating for 2 days serenaded by vince geraldi's charlie brown christmas music.
for some reason it feels extra special this year.
perhaps because after waffling for years with the witnesses i was finally able to let go this summer after finding this site.. so when are you putting up your christmas tree?.

We buy ours and put it up the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This is followed by dinner at a Chinese restaurant then cookies and hot chocolate at home while we put up the lights.
It was really warm here this weekend so we had to get around the warm weather to get in the Christmas mood. (I don't mind the warm weather; I can adjust!)

Who Will Be Celebrating Thanksgiving & XMas This Year???
by minimus infunny thing about jws----many celebrate thanksgiving but say they're only eating turkey with all the fixings by coincidence.
god made the food to be consumed everyday.
then you get witnesses who celebrate christmas the day before or after with all sorts of presents but they won't give it on the 25th because that day is pagan.

Me! The holiday season begins tomorrow! I'm taking the day off to begin baking and cooking for Thursday; Saturday we'll buy the tree. I just wish the season lasted longer.
