Do most ex JW's go politically left?

i've found it interesting that- imho- most of the politically vocal ex-jw's at this website seem to lean left.

i'm personally pretty centered- right on some issues, left on others, but overall have a pretty cynical view of all political/religious leaders.

i find it somewhat ironic that people who leave such a dogmatic group like the witnesses become so politically dogmatic.

I lived under totalitarian and I have aversion of social engineering experiment. I do not like pack mentality and nor that I have to have stance on every issue that does not pertain me. I do not like when there is a government telling me how I should live my private life. I do not have specific attachment to any party or any movement.

Last year the argument and storm that followed incited by two ogres Junction and AlphaMale was issue of media. My point was that all media lies and are biased. Some media lies more than others. These two jerks were insisting that Fox and right-view media do not lie because they are not under control of Jews. Suddenly, couple other anti-semites joined chorus, and well all over me accusing me of beliefs and positions that I never said. Especially AlphaMale was vulgar. Vivian joined the discussion and these people continued with attacks and verbal harassment against her and several others. The thread was eventually locked for posting. And I can tell you it was not Vivian who was cyberbully, but AlphaMale and Junction, hiding behind the anonymity of internet.

So, my experience on JWN is that people have not only right-wing view, but they are extremely defensive when they get challenged or even when you slightly disagreed with them. To them, everyone else is wrong and only their political stance was right.

Education is not just for the young.

Excellent point. In this economy and structure of the labor force, it is also necessary. People are forced to work later. Some countries the full-time retirement will not start until 68. Science and technology constantly arrive with new discoveries and methods, and it is crucial to stay on top of it.

Yes, Yes.

I studied in Europe and later in USA. I earned B.S. and I got corporate career in field I love. I earned two graduate certifications to be more proficient in the area from the state university, and I got promoted. I am in process to complete my master's degree, and I am waiting for my thesis to be accepted by faculty. I am set to graduate in six months. I wish I had more strength to pursue PhD. However, school and job totally whipped me out in past two years. And it is expensive.

When I went to university 25 years ago, I got visit from two elders. They were not very happy and tried to persuade me to quit. My JW aunt constantly told to everyone that I will never make it through, because I suppose to be stupid as my dad. My dad studied with her, but refused to get baptized. My father never went to school, he was born during Great Depression and lived through WWII where my grandparents lost everything due air raids. He had to work to survive, and never had the chance to pursue education. Under Stalin he was drafted into army until he was purged in 1968/69. Nonetheless, my father spoke several languages, and had amassed a library of 2000 books.

My mom is supportive. My grandfather was scientist, university professor, and member of national academia with both PhD and doctorate. If I would change a bit, I would pick different school for my graduate certification and my undergraduate major to be more aligned with current job market. I recommend everyone to go to school, it is a great experience. After my master's, I will take a break. I may go for second master's to be more specialized.

If you look into the plane registration, you will see that these planes are 35 years old and not really usable for commercial flight even after retrofitting. Abandoning planes like that is rather common. Government is just issuing regular public notice prior scrapping.

My experience is exactly opposite. I have encountered far more extreme right-wing extremists on JWN than lefties. I am centrist. I support conservative and right leaning issues, but also I have some left-leaning opinions like healthcare and gay rights. And I do not have opinion for many issues that defines left/right boundary, because I do not care about it at all. My experience with political leaning of ex-JW crowd that once you disagree on some issue with them you became leftist. Exactly year ago there were nasty debates after mid-term election when some ogre with screenname "Junction" was verbally attacking me; and suddenly half dozen people I never exchanged any post, were all over against me for things I never mentioned, do not believe, nor I have cared. This thread eventually passed to Viv, and had to be locked down, not because of Viv, but because of GOP supporters. While I did not agree with some of the political opinions of Viv, she was civil, while Junction, and rest of the pack where vulgar, hostile, and outright nasty.

Amen to that. I wish my family will see it as well. Problem with WT that it ignores mental and personal crisis and does not care if any of its member dies. When she died, nobody in my KH cared at all, like she did not existed. I know my mom was deeply wounded and she blamed herself that she was not there for her at that right moment. It hurt her and my mom was never the same JW as before. These two women were in KH all the time together. My mom loves pastel blue colors wears white pears on program. She was sitting next to her in red corals, and all the color of fire outfit. They were so opposite. I do not remember what she doing for a work, and do not recollect much of her in the 1980's. She dreamed to be married to elder, or wait till Armageddon. It was just behind corners, and nobody should get old waiting 30-40 years.

LongHairGal, this woman died 1991 or early 1992. She jumped in front of the train at the end of the summer. I remember it, because it was still warm and she died in winter. She may have realized that no elder man was there out for her. When we were on assembly, she liked one particular, middle-aged British guy, and I translated for them. I even took picture for her of two of them. My mom said she may felt that her feelings were not returned at that assembly, but we may never known. She did not share this with my mom. She was just turning 60 and getting retired, so there was only prospect of loneliness in retirement. When she killed herself, she did not leave any message. However, everything she owned, she destroyed. The cop told us, she was doing this damage for several days, and it was planned. All her cloths were cut, all china was broken, pictures and upholstery cut off; she set a fire to her carpet and swallowed tons of pills for eternal sleep. We did not know she died until my mom was contacted by the city.

With the group of four women, two were JWs, her and my mom. The other two studied, and went to KH from tiem to time, but never got baptized. She was also the only one who never got married. To me, she may have had some secret crash on someone in the past the way she dressed: jewelry, nice manicure, bright red polish, tailored cloths, and always wore make up. She always wanted to look good. If she got a chance to get married, having children, she could be a grandmother. But instead she was saving herself for some to be worthy and married in "Truth".

TheWonderOfYou & Digonesister. Only my mom knew her well. She was friend with her since 1950's, prior my mom got baptized as JW. My mom and her and two other women used to go for weekend to resort town for a spa treatment and relaxation. She knew my father well. She never married and my mom never met anyone from her family.

I know that except my mom, nobody liked her due her appearance. JW women in my KH were dressing gray colors, this is reason why mom called them mice. However, that woman loved bright colors. Always pink to red to mauve and orange/yellow. I would not say gypsy color, because that woman was not a gypsy. She was not extravagant either. But it was just her personality. She spent with us on assembly in Prague-Strahov in 1991 and she was all over one group of British JWs and very joyful. Several weeks later she had her suicide attempt. I recall seeing her prior that in the city, she just walked by me and later passed by my father without saying any word. Last time I saw her on wheelchair looking outside of the window; and later we find out that she died committing suicide. Also nobody claimed her body and the government was unable to trace any living relatives. Nobody from my KH went to visit her either, except our family.

What I know she dreamed good, religious man, probably elder, but all the good men would be available after Armageddon. I know my mom was very devastated and she blamed herself that she did not do enough to prevent it.

Raqqa is unofficial capital of unofficial country of 12 to 15 millions of people with 25,000 foreigner fighters, and 100, 000 troops of local population. Even nuking Raqqa will not put the end of this state, because it lives in the heads of the Islamist fighters. One Raqqa is destroyed, they will overwhelm another area sympathetic to their ideas. And this can be anywhere from Mali to Iraq and from Libya to Yemen.

In my KH we had JW woman who was single, never married, and available after Armageddon. She was very nice woman, and good friend with my mom. Both of them will sit next to each other and travel together. We even were together in 1991 assembly in Strahov in Prague. She always dressed with bright colors, unlike other elderly, single women who my mom called a gray mice. She had pink nails, red hat, beret, yellow to orange skits. Eventually she had a personal crisis after Strahov assembly, which even my mom does not know why. What I know, she did not have family either. One day she decided to jump in front of train, which run through my city. This train is more or less single car lorry, something like tram. She did not die as the impact catapulted her out, but she was disfigured and lost a limb. I went to visit her, she was looking out of window from wheel chair and refused to talk to anyone. She just stared away. Couple months later, she destroyed everything she owned, cut all pieces of her clothing, upholstery on her furniture, smashed all her china, and set the place on fire, while took sedatives, and died. I often wonder why she went the way she did. She did not deserved to commit suicide at age 60 or so. We could not even bury her, and she was cremated on the city expenses and scattered as she did not have anyone to claim the body.

When it comes to marriage, St. Augustine said that marriage is for these, how are afraid to sleep alone in the darkness of the night. Some people are happy to be single, and some people wants to be married. Many have unhappy marriage, and some people have great marriage. There is no rule what makes things better.
