org is dying
by lambsbottom ini don't understand why so many ex jws and faders think that the jws will continue to grow and thrive as a religion.
i still attend a meeting once a week and you can smell the death of the religion creeping up when you hear the talks, read the study wts and hear the letters from the gb.
the way the organization has changed is a sign that it reached its peak (in "healthy" membership) long ago.

I do not believe that WT can be reformed like did European churches in 16th century. They will adapt to keep membership increasing or at least stagnant. They can successfully cut from the past as did Rutherford from Russell's followers, but they cannot change their core doctrine. It is End-Time cult that thrives on promoting the Armageddon scenario. It is its brand and purpose. It cannot move from it or push it out of the sight. Additionally, there is always a demand for cult that promotes imminent whipe out of entire humanity. They had existed in the antiquity, thrived in medieval times, and became dominant in Northern America where majority of modern End-cults originated.
Others also compare WT to totalitarian regimes-which is- like USSR. However, you see it as a political entity, not like cultural-social entity. For example Russian culture survived Tsarism, Soviet Union, WWI & WWII, civil war, and disintegration of the Soviet empire. However, the Russian culture is stil here. The political system had changed. WT is moving along the same principle. Its political system will change, but its cultural fabric will survive. WT is not going anywhere, and they will be here far longer than anyone of us stay alive.

Pretty Sad
by piztjw init really is pretty sad that the gb and their "fair-haired-boys" cannot get their stories straight even from one day to the next.. friday, while touting the greatness of jw.org the rc speaker bragged about the web site being translated into over 400 languages.
on saturday splane bragged about it being translated in 369 languages.
while that is close to 400 it surely isn't over 400.. then yesterday one of the speakers said, "the mormon church is investing on internet web site outreach.

NAVYTOWN, it is torture for everyone even elderly. My parents never go for more than day. I was on three day convention in 1991 and never again just from sitting in the heat.

FlyingHighNow. USSR was never atheist country. It had the official politics was atheist, but population was not. I lived under communism, and there were some preferred national churches, and outlawed other like JW. While communist government inflicted heavy crackdown on clergy and repressed or marginalized the active believers, it was never successfull in enforcing atheism. The biggest hit to religious organization was education and religious indifference in Eastern Europe. Majority of violence there was directed against population refusing dictatorship. As any other totalitarian regime, it sought to maintain control in whatever means in whatever cost. Not much different from Nazi Germany, or Jacobin France in 1794. Neither Hitler or Robespierre were atheist. Under Stalin in 1941, Othodox church was preferred faith as it helped unified Russian population against Nazims. Churches in Russia were opened durign WWII and remained under government control until 1991. East Asia are specific and religious indifferent, but you cannot compare cultural and social fabric in China with USSR and not to mention with Northern Korea where the dictatorial family is venerated as a saint.

My friends don't believe dinosaurs existed ....
by wannabefree ini just found this out last night.

Dinosaurs' fossils were known since antiquity. Roman emperors were vivid collectors of them and some of the bones were also discovered and interpreted in medieval times a proof of the Deluge. The best way to see evolution is to hit the nature; however, JWs do not have enough time for it, because they are busy seating on studies and doing field service.

What prophecys made you belive the Bible?
by venting ini now believe the bible is a book of history and myths.
the org and others still point to certain prophecys that lead them to believe, that god must have been involved.
how can we explain some of these?

What all biblical prophecies have common? Non of them ever came true. What you other argue here with proven prophecies are often not even related what OT & NT said. You mentioned destruction of Jewish system in 70AD. Not really, it was only punishment of the rebellious Roman province. Jews who majority lived at that time outside Judea in cities like Alexandria have NOT faces any punishment for rebellion in Judea. Jews who lived scattered among two biggest empire of the antiquity, Roman and Persian empire, were not EVEN aware that Messiah had been declared in their ancestral country. And so on can be analyzed any prophecy in the Bible. Some of them are so vague like:
19 I will put in the desert
the cedar and the acacia, the myrtle and the olive.
I will set junipers in the wasteland,
the fir and the cypress together,
20 so that people may see and know,
may consider and understand,
that the hand of the Lord has done this,
that the Holy One of Israel has created it.[Isaiah 41:19-20]
Are you really think this is really prophecy that mention tree growing in Levant as a proof? Who think this is a prophecy about future? Either way, I do not hang up much on prophecies that are product of a wild imagination like of that John of Patmos. Do other are aware that Romans had extensive prophetic schools, so did Greeks. Some of these Greeco-Roman prohecies became true, like every clock is correct twice in day.

I do not think JW is dying. They could 100-85-45-25 years ago after all these failed prophecies and expectations, but they survived. They are not going anywhere. They may experience shinking membership for a while, but they will not disappear. WT is a seller of unatainable and misleading empty promises for a better future, and there are alwyas thousands of people who would sit on the bait. The image of petting zoo of pandas and tigers; resurrected loved ones; world without problem because there is higher power that will solve everything. This sell nicely. Many people would not care about WT past nor use analytical skills to see that it is all nonsense. After 1975 they experienced crisis, but WT resolved them with new round of BS. They will adapt.

There is no more a man alive born before 1900. There are six or seven women alive that were born 1898-1900. My grandfather was that generation, he fought in WWI on Eastern Front for Austria-Hungary. He is long dead. All my grandparents were born before WWI and they died in 1990's. Generationt that will not die certainly passed away.

Your final WTF? Moment!
by restrangled init was a long time coming for me.....when i read about the extened generations, after being raised on1914 being the be all end all, and millions would never die....that was the end.
i was part of the 1975 fiasco, the 6 month only truth book studies, suffered through a disifellowshipping and their version of a rewind.
i finally am free and hope others can eventually look in instead of inside looking out!

I grew up with it. Last month my mom asked me what caused me to leave the "Truth" I said it was the study of the book of Revelation. We studied around 1991-1992 and I could not accept the amount of BS that was in that book. The stories of some assemblies in far away distant country like OH, USA in 1920's compared to the events of the Revelation and other nonsense. I looked around KH and everyone was wow, that is awesome. This was my mental break from man proclaimed truth. Later I was able to find out about the 1925 fiasco and I knew that WT is full of lies.
