The Children Act
by tim hooper innew ian mcewan novel the children act to take on religionstory focusing on parents who refuse treatment for their son's illness will be published in septemberian mcewan will focus on the contested domains of religion and family life for his forthcoming novel, the children act, according to his publisher jonathan cape.. due to be published on 4 september 2014, the children act puts ideas of adult responsibility on trial with a plot that revolves around parents who are refusing treatment for their sick son because of their religious beliefs.
the novel centres on the presiding judge at the high court, who is a woman.. speaking at last month's oxford literary festival, mcewan described the denial of medical help on religious grounds "utterly perverse and inhumane", according to the telegraph, arguing that "the secular mind seems far superior in making reasonable judgments".. "there's an almost consumerist notion that the pursuit of individual happiness cuts across the interests of children," mcewan said.. citing cases involving jehovah's witnesses and catholics, mcewan praised the 1989 children's act, which enshrines the child's welfare as the "paramount consideration" in any court ruling, calling it a "remarkable and civilised piece of legislation".. the novelist has long been suspicious of organised faith, telling the believer in 2005 that he has "no patience whatsoever" with religion.. "i'm not against religion in the sense that i feel i can't tolerate it," he said, "but i think written into the rubric of religion is the certainty of its own truth.
and since there are 6,000 religions currently on the face of the earth, they can't all be right.

by prologos inwatched parts of a documentary on the stunning beauty of aborginal sites, , ancient art and costumes of the original australian inhabitants.
their beliefs, as i understood it, requires ceremonial dream trecks through their territory to preserve the universe, their eden.
similar to wt beliefs, that their holy street work is the only way that the future paradise will be established, populated.

God's Kingdom Rules - for injustice?
by Ruby456 inhere is what i am asking regarding the convention that is now in progess at twickenham and at which this new book gods kingdom rules was released.. what inequalities and injustices is the convention perpetrating regarding god's kingdom rule and which it would like to keep hidden and quiet about?.
the biggest one i can think of is that it favours the able bodied and a particular type of able bodied.
everyone else must try to match that particular able bodied type.

by darkspilver inorphan crow: over the course of the past four decades, hydroxyethyl starch has been used for the jehovah’s witness population... it is clear that the use of hydroxethyl starch adds extra risk to the patient.
some numbers...... this is for the uk onlyiv fluids used by nhs responsible for unnecessary deaths.
london school of hygiene & tropical medicine, 28 february 2013starch-based intravenous (iv) fluids used by the nhs to treat seriously ill patients are causing unnecessary deaths, according to a new cochrane systematic review by researchers at the school.. based on data from 25 randomised control trials, the researchers concluded that starch-based colloid fluids, used to stabilise patients with low blood pressure, are not only more expensive than saline-based crystalloid fluids, but may also be causing around 250 unnecessary deaths in the uk every year.. the safety of using colloids containing hydroxyethyl starch has been debated for years.

Shunning: The Transcendence of Emotion?
by Rainbow_Troll ini was watching video on youtube about a man who gave up one of his kidneys to his sister who was suffering from kidney disease.
for him it was no small sacrifice, since he isn't in the best of health himself.

by Ruby456 ina wonderful uplifiting book i'm reading.
it is the story of jesus (yehoshuah in the book) told from a jewish perspective and situated in jewish family and village life as it was then.
at one point in the book jesus' mother wants to capture the moment and install it in eternity so she says to her companion, a young follower of jesus(yeshoshuah) who has come to visit her after his death and who wants to know about her son's life growing up.
