I think it's bad form to treat anyone badly because of religioius affiliation. In my opinion most religions have cult-like traits and wee as ex-JWs should undertand that.

JW's vs Catholics
by Wordly Andre inone thing ive noticed with a lot of people on this website is hatred towards the catholic church, more so than any other religion, is this a by product of years of indoctrination from the jws?
i am not trying to change or challenge anyones beliefs, but i started thinking about this after watching last nights episode of big love, one of the wives on that show allows her son to attend a catholic school, but then starts talking about how crucifixes are demonic and how the church is full of evil, it reminded me of the way jws talk about the catholic church.
a while back i dated a girl who used to be a member of the world wide church of god or international church of christ, i forget the name exactly but they hated the catholic church too, a lot of the way they kept track of their members was very much like jws.

I think you need to turn it around, and tell her unless she leaves this cult it is over...period.
And even if she leaves the Cult, you'll have to deal with her baggage. There is a strong possibility she will return to them after you're married. You will have very lonely life.

Divorce rates among JWs higher?
by AK - Jeff indo you believe that divorce rates among jw's is higher or lower than the averages now?.
in the us - at least recently - it was said that about 50% of all marriages will end in divorce.. for decades as a jw - i believed that jw's were immune from this statistic.
among the older married couples divorce seemed almost unheard of - and still, among the older crowd, that holds true i believe.

I think the Divorce Rate is probably lower among the JWs. Not so much because they have good marriages but because it is Required of them not to Divorce.

I learned this one in the sixth grade.
By Ella Higginson I KNOW a place where the sun is like gold, And the cherry blooms burst with snow, And down underneath is the loveliest nook, Where the four-leaf clovers grow. One leaf is for hope, and one is for faith, 5 And one is for love, you know, And God put another in for luck,— If you search, you will find where they grow. But you must have hope, and you must have faith, You must love and be strong—and so. 10 If you work, if you wait, you will find the place Where the four-leaf clovers grow. -

I worked hard at trying to "Make The Truth My Own" until I realized it Wasn't The Truth. There is nothing to Encourage about making the rhetoric of the Watchtower the Truth.

I believe our basic personality is with us when we are born. Our life experiences, including involvement with Jehovah's Witnesses contribute to our behaviors and growth. While I'm happy to have been out over 20 years now, I cherish those who were my dear friends.... and I miss them.

What others think about you while you're still in...
by Anony-Mouse inwhen you were in the religion, how important was it to you that you fit in with the crowd?
i've had an issue with a freind, and this is apparently the cause of the problem.
i also have a good idea of psychology.

I was always a little controversial. I allowed my kids to bring homework to the KH. I allowed my sons to have longer hair. I disagreed with Disfellowshiping.....The List Goes On and on. With that said, I had a group of friends I associated with who respected my opinions. I think the congregation had my family on watch but never said it. My ex-husband always wanted to be an elder but he never attained this lofty position until I divorced him.

are Jehovah's Witnesses a cult? You decide...
by under_believer inthere are no new thoughts in this post, but i felt like this topic was timely, what with it being convention time again, and with the anti-education rhetoric they've been spouting lately.. .
there are many definitions and lists of criteria for the concept of "cult.
" this is only one of them, so your mileage may vary.

Most Organized Religions are Cults. If remember hearing people in a Christian Church how they would be afraid of Not Being a Christian. Go Figure!
