  this question may not make too much sense.

  if a man creates a computer, using the best parts and software design with the intent of analyzing data accurately and reliably, would he also design it with the ability or freedom to 'crash' or spread viruses to other computers if it chose to?

  if a man trains a dog with the intent of being a family pet, would he also give it the knowledge to kill humans or other animals?

  The standard Christian argument to this is that evil has no existence in itself; rather, it is the contradiction of good. So the existence of good necessitates the existence of evil, just as the existence of heat necessitates the existence of cold (because cold is a lack of heat).

  I still think that God could have created a better world than we have right now. But the above explanation does at least make sense to me, as far as why evil exists. YMMV*.

  it took me over a month of reading every night before bed, but last night i finished reading crisis of conscience.

  i was amazed by what i read.

  the extent of disregard for peoples feelings and lack of human kindness to those who had given a major part of their lives to theocratic service, made me sick.

  Do you mean that you believe there are those who are aware of what Franz talks about yet still remain as a "true believer"? I don't mean the G.B., but rank and file ones

  I don't think necessarily R&F, but probably elders and other prominent ones. They have a lot invested emotionally in their 'careers'. They're 'somebody' in the congregation. If they leave, they're suddenly nobody, and all the years of service that they were so proud of are now a waste.

  remember the old issue in the ministry school guidebook re theocratic terms.

  well can i ask for some one to help me with " posting terms explained " .

  i know i have had a sheltered life but what do those acronyms mean - btw lol borg (i can guess that one but it could have a number if subtle differences) etc etc i think i can guess some of them but can anyone give some definition to all those odd little expressions used in posts here - which are fine if you know the meaning - but for boring old ***** like me i havent got a clue?

  The "vow of poverty" doesn't prevent Bethelites from owning business. It just prevents them from working (except on their vacation time). I believe that's for legal reasons.

  Can a J-Dub conduct a Bible study without a WTS publication?

  if j-dubs claim to be the authority on bible literacy and teaching, then why can't they conduct a bible study or preach without a wts publication?

  if i claimed to be an authority on shakespeare during a conversation with a friend, would i pull out a book written by someone else that explained it?

  how does that prove that i understand shakespeares work?

  I, too, conducted studies using just the Bible occasionally when I was a dub. Especially with some people, starting out, they had a lot of questions, and I felt that it was more productive to answer their questions first, using the Bible, before trying to get into a publications.

  Similarily, if they asked a question during the study that wasn't in the material, I would go ahead and answer it, using the Bible. I never agreed with the WTS position that you should push the question aside and say "it will get answered later in the book."

  Hey, SYN, good to see you! Have you been away, or have we just been on different threads?

  All I can say is that I hope that the WT has a similar smoking gun. But I doubt it... they've always been good about keeping things on an oral level.
