Memorial - What are people actually thinking during it?
by asleif_dufansdottir ini had posted some of this on another thread, when i thought it might be fun to have a thread of "what is actually going thru people's minds" when they are sitting there at the memorial...
"i don't care what mom says, i'm never going to this dumb thing again.
she could at least let me have my gameboy if she's going to make me come to these dumb things.

They are going to want to pray at thier meal, prolly study or go to meeting at some point, invite you to do so, etc..Um...stay "stay busy"..*LOL*
Once again I must question the board of what value is it to "lie" to guests in your own home just to save face or not to make them uncomfortable.
If they're visiting they must know that you're not JW, so why should you have to go through the pretense of pretending to by "busy" because you don't want to go to meetings with them. If they're comeing under the pretense that since they're JW they get to preach till they wear you down they're already coming over with the wrong attitude.
If they ask and you're truly not interested, a firm "no, I'm not interested" along with an offer to give them instructions on how to get wherever their going will do even better than the lie of pretending busy.

My Uncle's Eulogy
by Larry ini gave the eulogy for my uncle's funeral yesterday, and since i'm no longer a jdub i kept the discourse neutral re: religion and the afterlife.
my uncle didn't believe in a heaven or hell, and i knew that during the concluding song & pray, given by his friends, that would cover that subject.
i spoke about what he was as a person, what he believed in, what we will miss about him, and what he would want the survives to do.

Many Jubs are very inconsiderate. While they know for a fact that folks don't want to hear that mess, they make it a point to spew it anyway.
And that, my friend is what they call giving a "witness". The very pinnacle of arrogance on their part to think that just because they have a captive audience, that that audience will want to hear the WT parrotted paradise nonsense.
I've actually been at funerals where JW will pass out tracts or otherwise, just sit there holding a tract or magazine hoping to elicit some type of response from someone so that they can "give a witness". I've actually seen witness stop at church funerals, passing out tracts to bereaved family that they don't even know. How very rude and arrogant!!!!
They really have no clue as to how stupid they look walking around as an 24/7 advertisement for their man made WT God.

Ok, Question: Was there a comment made at a meeting that finally convinced.
by New Castles inwas there a comment made at a meeting that finally convinced you, this is not right?
for me a couple of weeks ago was in the service meeting, they stated that if the children didnt finish their homework because they were studying the bible or at a meeting that teachers should understand that their meetings and study are more important.
i looked at my wife and went "what"??

For me, it wasn't so much a comment made at a meeting as it was a comment made in my very living room.
I was beginning the slow process of drowning in a sea of debt unable to recover with the job, basically flipping burgers, that I presently had when I decided it's time to go back to school. Elders in my house almost every other weekend trying to talk me out of it, when one of them said, and I quote, "you'll be wasting your time going back to school. I'm in the business you're trying to get into and you probably won't make much more money than what you're making right now. Wouldn't your time be more productively spent in the ministry?"
I looked at the tailored suit and the silk ties both of them were wearing and I realized that I'd surrendered wwaaayyyyy to much of my life to that organizationand it's pseudo-god and I needed to make a change .....fast.
Fast-forward to today...some ten years later and I've finished school, quadrupled my income and raised my standard of living far above what it would've been had I taken their advice.

How about if you say "get the hell out my house" as I plan to say if they ever try to intimidate me by asking me that question.

Would You Return To The Organization If You Were Given Total Amnesty?
by minimus inif you knew that the policy was that there would be no more witchhunts, no more disfellowshippings or shunning of any kind, would you be tempted to go back?
-

Given total Amnesty!!!!
For what?
I've done nothing wrong to feel the need for absolution from them.
I'd rather be skinned and buried alive neck deep in warm horseshit than to ever go back to that nonsense.

but he was flipping around a Watchtower magazine, trying to make it look like he was really interested in it. It was so obvious that he was broadcasting it since he wasn't really reading it. I guess he was hoping that someone would approach him and say, "Excuse me, but I couldn't help but wonder what you're reading that's so interesting?" Dork.
My wife pulls this shi# all the time when there's a death in the family or we're in a group on non-jw. She plans that crap. She'll pull out a magazine or tract and hold it in her hand and sit there like a mannequin waiting for someone to show any interest.
Irritates the hell out of me!!!

What's The Best Way To Help A Witness Leave The Organization?
by minimus inany suggestions?????
?
-

You can't really "help" them leave unless they really want to. The problem faced is that the fear inspired by leaving the WT runs so deep that it's tough for them to make the jump from thinking of leaving to wanting to leave.

I think what I would do is print a copy of the contract the WTBTS signed with the UN to become an NGO and rub their grubby brown nosing face in it .
Boy....I would Love to get my hands on that document!!!!!
