What is up w/my mom?

i really hate jw hypocrisy.

i love my mom but i am sick and tired of the hypocrisy from her and my family.

last summer on august 10th a day before my sons 3rd birthday i recieved package from my jw family wrapped in cute gift paper.

What I always found amusing is the amount of JWs I know that have a real Christmas feast on Christmas day. They go the whole hog - turkey, brussel sprouts, stuffing, Christmas pudding! When I asked one family once, they said "Well the shops are full of these things at the moment - it's all you can buy so we might as well - we are not celebrating Christmas though" ??????

But I agree with everyone else. Don't be angry with your Mum - she is doing her best - and at least she loves you and her granchildren enough to make her disregard some of her beliefs and get you pressies. I think it's nice of her. As someone has already mentioned, she may be on the brink of seeing the light herself, who knows?

I always keep my cards. Around beginning January time, I would send them a blank verse card to thank them for their thought and in it I'd explain why I didn't send them a Christmas card. I am on the brink of leaving the organisation, but I still won't bother with Christmas much because I just can't be bothered with all the hype. I like bits of it so I'll just enjoy the bits I like and discard the rest.

I always send the cards to a local charity - they re-use them for next year - waste not, want not etc.

Understanding Matthew 24. What does it mean?

This was brilliant and read all of it - quite a feat for me!

Why do you say that the answer to the second question starts in verse 23? I know you compared it to Luke 21, but I still don't see how you can see where the answer to one question ends and another begins.

Also, you mentioned a book you have written. Is this book available for anyone? I would love to read it.

Does anyone know of a book that explains Revelation? Is there a book a bit like the WT 'Revelation - it's Climax at Hand', but one that actually is based on the Bible? I would like a verse by verse breakdown of Revelation. I am always puzzled as to why God wrote everything in such an odd way. Why write riddles so that people can interpret them in their own way? Very strange - a God of Confusion in my mind. Maybe he had a reason for keeping everything hidden from everyone.

If God is not a God of confusion, why is the Bible so hard to understand? Why does it have so many things in symbls which everybody can interpret any way they like? Why didn't he makes his word easier to understand? There are too many interpretations flying about and nobody can agree on anything. If I was God, I would give everybody a book that is clear, simple and easy to understand and which couldn't be mis-interpreted. I mean, look at Revelation - what is that all about? Why does God have to talk in riddles? I wish I knew the answers - I thought I had them once but now I find out I was duped by the WTBTS as well as the Catholic Church. There must be some answers somewhere.

Me too - I would love a Bible like that - one that hasn't been coloured by the translators own beliefs and ideas. That would be excellent.

I shall print your commentaries and take them to the meeting tomorrow - if I can persuade myself to go - family pressure you see!! They will make the WT study less boring and will give me something meaningful to read.

i have often wondered why some people that leave the wt organisation go really weird.

there is a couple near me who left a couple of years ago.

Your replies are fantastic - I don't think anyone on this board is wacko (tho I am pretty new!!) I just know I can't go on dragging myself to meetings, even if it is only once a month or so, feeling the way I do. I am so angry about so many things at the moment and most of them involve 2 elders in particular. I love my children and I am 99% certain they would be on my side when I make the complete break. Maybe baby steps are better as you have advised.

But the truth is, I wouldn't be strong if my family turned against me. Imagine having a child, you love them, nurture them, make sure they eat all the right foods, take them to school, always watch out for them and keep them safe. And then, because you no longer share the same religious beliefs, that child turns against you! I have seen it happen and I never really thought about it as much as I have lately. There was a brother who was DFed and his pioneer daughter will have nothing to do with him and it breaks his heart. If this happend to me, I don't know what I would do. That's why I asked this question. The pressure you are under in the org, and even more when you leave, can lead you to do really stupid things that you know are going to hurt you. I think if my children shunned me I would crack up and have to be put in a padded cell for my own safety.

So I guess, when you first come out of the org, you need to be careful. I don't think I would go off the rails, but when I really think about it, I just don't know. I am confident that my family love me enough not to shun me - but what if they do? I don't think I will be able to handle that. I can cope with the shunning by others, but not my own family - it would cut me to pieces. I hope and pray that doesn't happen, but it is early days yet and I just don't know. I hope I have the strength to stay calm and stable and not to go back to the way I was before when my world fell apart - it wasn't a nice experience - maybe I'm not a very strong person.

Judas Iscariot

was watching a deal on tv last night (discovery channel, history channel, can't remember)....and it reminded me of something i've always thought about.. was judas really a bad guy?

should he be condemned for doing something that had to be done?

i mean, after all, had he not "betrayed his master".....then jesus wouldn't have died, right?

This is somethng I have often wondered about. You can't get away from the fact that Judas HAD TO betray Jesus in order for God's plan to work out. So really, Judas didn't have a choice - he had to do it. God said this would happen, Jesus would be betrayed without any doubt, somebody had to betray him, and that somebody was Judas. If he hadn't gone ahead with it, God would have had to use someone else. The fact is, somebody had to do it becasue it was what God said would happen and he can't lie. This means that Judas was on a hiding to nothing! He really couldn't get out of it - it had to be done. I always though that was very unfair.
