The word Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis (also spelled -koniosis) is defined as "a lung disease caused by the inhalation of very fine silica (sandlike) dust, mostly found in volcanoes". It was originally coined simply to serve as the longest English word, but has been used in several sources as an approximation of its originally intended definition. The name generally used to describe this condition is pneumoconiosis, which is much shorter. (wikipedia)

Britain Under Surveillance

far from following the u.s.' lead, britain appears to be way ahead of the pack in spying on its own people.. brothers, is this all true?

how far will we, the masses, let this sort of thing go?

americans, if this sort of thing is allowed, and works, where do you think it will go next?.

What makes you think it isn't as bad or worse here in the US? Camera's at intersections are becoming more common, most grocery stores have cards you have to use if you want their discounts (you think they don't keep track of what you buy?) The recent phone tap fiasco... try taking airplane flight lately? they didn't do a cavity search on me, but they might as well have. Pick a spot in a city, any spot, and look around carefully.. you'll spot several cameras, and those are just the ones you see.

True privacy is a thing of the past, we gave it up long ago.

i think it was alanf that came up with this:"god chose the isrealites,as his people.the wbt$ chose the jehovah`s witness`s,as gods people".....did the wbt$ clear this with god?..does god do as he`s told,by the wbt$?..would god have a job,without the wbt$?..is god a wienie?..or..is the wbt$ very presumptuous about their position,as spokesman for god?...outlaw

What planted the seed of doubt that lead you to leave or think of leaving?

i've been thinking of this a lot lately.

the following experience ties my first doubt in with my present life.

as a backdrop to this, you should know that i was a 5th generation "raised in the truth" jw through my mother (her great-grandfather got "the truth" from pastor russell).

God is love. There is too much cruelty in the world today, too many horrors happening to truly good people. Just can't buy it anymore.

What did you throw out when u became a JW?

it really pigs me off now when i think back to what i was told to get rid of when i was studying.my collection of stephen king books, my new madonna like a prayer record that i loved, my alice cooper and guns and roses album.

i was even told not to listen to classical music because some of the composers led such debauched lives!also any film with an 18 certificate was a nono in case others were stumbled - even though i have seen other jws reading stephen king books and watching 18 cert films and my husband had the complete madonna collection!and of course depeche modes 'personal jesus' song which i loved.

and my lost boys album and video cos it was about vampires.i was just wondering what sort of things were you told you should get rid of and why?

I was raised a JW, so I didn't have to throw anything out.. except once when my ex-hubby decided he didn't like some of my books so I had to burn them.. I've re-bought every single one since then :)

[Fluff] - Celebrity Crushes!

i'll admit that for as far back as i can remember, i've picked up little crushes on celebrities.

Have you ever seen Saving Grace? Love that one. It's one we bought after seeing it then took with us to watch with family.. so we saw it 8 times in a little over a month :) and I'm still not sick of it :)

Shortly after I left the JW's my hubby (bf at the time) and I watched fight club and Being John Malkovich in the same night.. talk about initiation to movies previously prohibited!!!! I'm still discovering all the movies I missed because they were R rated, lol

Another movie I really like is Fifth Element.. we get that out occasionaly

Did you ever get into the brief tv series Firefly? or the movie that followed.. Serinity.. if not, check em out, I think you will be surprised. The only ones that we know that didn't like Firefly (after we insisted they watch) were my sister and her hubby.. and they are CO's so they don't count, lol
