I'm not dfed but have been out for over 3 years. One brother shuns me, the other doesn't. The latter is an elder. We like to paint them as the Stepford Witnesses but they're individuals and they apply the WT principles in varying degrees.

Question... Do JWs shun Family?
by Sassy ini had a disagreement with xq in chat today, because he was trying to say that jws for the most part disobey the wts and still treat family like family even if they are dfd or quit being witnesses.. i don't feel that is true.
i think that the majority of us on here who no longer are jws have family members who no longer have anything to do with us and shun us.... so i said it would be interesting to take a poll and see how many here are treated just like all the rest of your 'loving family' who is a jw still.......are you treated the same?.
does family shun you for being df'd, da'd or no longer participating?or do they hide and talk to you but only when other active jws can't see?

Did You Stay as a Witness Because You Needed a Social Life & "Friends"?
by minimus inrecently onacruse made a comment regarding why many jws remain jws.
a lot of people look at religion as a way to get together and be social with one another.
let's face it, people need "friends".

Yes, that is probably why I remained a Witness. I had a great social life with a lot of friends. I knew the friendship was conditional so although it was unpleasant when 99% of them dumped me, it wasn't a shock. It sounds like I was all the things everyone else here despised, upper crust, spiritual aristocracy and the fun ms/elder. When I left I got a lot of calls from friends, letters, visits etc trying to persuade me to stay but personal honesty finally became more important than family and friends.
Of course, I still have a great social life and good friends albeit on a smaller scale, and I still have some fantastic friends who are JWs despite our very different viewpoints. Seems I've been pretty lucky.

Any Morrissey Fans out there??
by Eyebrow2 ini recently bought his new cd "you are the quarry".
i was a bit disapointed that there was no case with it...just in card board sleeve...i guess he is cheap in his old age hahah.. it is a pretty decent album...he sounds the same as he did when i first started listening to him in the early 90s....i saw his video for "irish blood, english heart" and was shocked...he has aged!!!
how dare he look his age..he looks good, still handsome...but not the hottie he was when i was 20....sigh.

He is begining to look like someone's dad. I've seen him a few times in concert, even been involved in a fight for his sweat soaked top that he threw into the audience, so yes ladies and gentlemen, I have tasted Mozzer's sweat, and it was good!
I found it a bit embarressing when he was interviewed both by Jonathan Twat Ross and Jools Holland. I like him to sing and be enigmatic, not a middle aged teenager.
Favourite on this album... Hector's damned catchy.

That I am disfellowshipped.

Real Meaning fo Moscow Ban on JW's

Nice comparison. But shunning and dfing will continue whether the religion is state recognized or not, and the Russian state's record of human rights abuses is, in my opinion, more dangerous than the presence of Witnesses. While my family shun me, I have no desire to have them prosecuted by the state for it, or for the state to allow their persecution.

While I'm afraid of "locking horns" with the big boys, I have to ask:
Is it accurate to describe JWs as a danger to society? They compromise the lunatic fringe of society in such a small quantity that I don't think they can truly be described as such. While they may have divided some of our families, I don't foresee a time when society will be eroded by the presence of JWs.
Hopefully I've avoided straw dogs on slippery slopes.

eh, you don't have to be a JW to refuse blood. They can refuse it for any reason they choose to cook up, or for no apparent reason at all. The ban won't save lives, children are invariably taken in to state care over such issues anyway.

Why do these threads become so ugly with allegations of terrorist support made against those who aren't baying for blood? It's so depressing.

The history of Islam
by Elsewhere inhttp://www.islamicweb.com/history/chronology.htm
according to a pro-islam website... islam?s history is filled with conquest and violence.
i was intrigued by another posters post about how the crusades were in response to the muslims invading the western world... so i had to do my own research to see if this was actually true.. as it turns out, the muslims have a habit of trying to take over the world.
