It would surprise me to see anything too tantalizing in Tennessee JWs. It has historically been a pretty conservative State in the world of the JWs. I started dating a gal just outside of Nashville, (circa 1993) and the idiotic rules in the Cong were crazy. Dating couples cannot sit beside each other (alone) during a meeting in the Kingdom Hall (I sat beside her regardless), chaperones were mandatory. Yeh that didn't happen. I told the elders they were overstepping. Given I was still a Bethelite and Bethel elder at the time, they had a hard time arguing with me or trying to enforce their silly local rules.I can't tell you how many times I said to elders, show me the Scriptural basis or Wt article endorsing your rule.

I am around and still kicking. Uzzah aka Kismet and ForumDirector2 at H20 for those that go that far back.
Not active in exjw stuff anymore but come back here on occasion to see if any familiar names pop up. Gainfully employed, rehabilitation from a recent leg amputation but am moving well with the prosthetic.
Life after the JWs rocks. I am so very content in all elements of life.

Dating another Woke exJW or no?
by caves ini find that the people here speak in a way i can understand because we have one thing in common if nothing else.
so my question is , would it be easier to date someone that has been a jw and woke up or not?.
i would love for someone to 'get it' without having to explain much.

I was attending a business conference in Michigan recently and started a conversation with a lady who sat next to me at the hotel bar. Somehow the conversation turned and I commented about being raised a JW. Found out she was also a born in now out witness. There was a great connection and immediate bond. However it is somewhat artificial. We both were excited due to a shared upbringing but that is not the basis for a 'hook up" or relationship. It is an artificial connection.
It can be a good starting point but really shouldn't be the foundation of any kind of relationship beyond an acquaintance with a shared background. Anything more needs to be deeper.

Anyone know where he is speaking tomorrow (Sunday). He and his wife entertained me in their room for a glass of wine pre-lunch while visiting their Branch Office many years ago. Would enjoy catching up and telling him of my path since then. But I would have to put on a suit and shave my beard. Bah.. Not worth it

Any information about an apostate from the 30s?
by paradiseseeker inhere in spain we have just had a special visit from the central branch representative (well i'm not sure what his position is) and in his talk he mentioned an episode in which an apostate and his supporters were expelled from bethel in the early 30s under rutherford's rule.
i didn't catch the name, it was something like "shutter" or "shulter".
this event was mentioned to bring attention to a woman who was very close to this apostate and just because of that she was unfairly expelled from bethel as well, but she was "humble" and "content" enough to leave the matter on jehovah's hands and she was reaccepted in bethel after a while.

Farkel, Norm F, Alan, JanH did so much of the heavy lifting years back that laid the foundation for many mentioned in this thread. There have been so many individual efforts that it is of very little value to make it 'the best of'. Thank you to all that did the research, created the arguments and pushed people out of their cognitive dissonance. Past current and future warriors, named and unnamed, are deserving of praise and thanks. It isn't about any individual

Trudeau panders to his audience. This alleged joke was his attempt to win over a particular segment of society. It only became a 'joke' when he realized (or his staffers realized) it was not acceptable.
He will always include women, girls, LGBTQ2, and other special interests whether they are relevant to the conversation or not. I agree there are issues that need to be addressed with each of these groups but it is his apparent mandate to make everything somehow about these groups.
I prefer a leader that focuses on all of Society not just special interests. That said one group that deserves a lot more of his interest and passion are veterans. His focus on refugees versus those that made a country safe for refugees is despicable!

I was VERY impressed by the journalist's approach which is one of the reasons I agreed to be interviewed by her despite being an ex-JW is really no longer a part of who I am.
She did a great job on the article

I had a chance to meet Knorr, Jaracz multiple times (his wife was Canadian), Sydlik, Franz, Barr, Losche (before he was GB) had dinner with him and Jaracz in Poland (1989) and wine in his Bethel room while visiting their branch.
Franz was entertaining. The rest other than Sydlik were boring and unimpressive. The only point of agreement I had with Jaracz was his taste in scotch.
