Dig a hole, throw me in. No box needed and no need for big ceremonies either cause I won't know the difference. Save the money and give it to someone who needs it. And if they need the parts they can have them also.

Burial or Cremation?
by Francois ini got the idea for this thread from one jessika posted and which contained a response from dede.. which form of final resting place do you prefer and why?
personally, i want to be cremated and have my ashes scattered at a particular place on the beach on deserted st. catherine's island, a barrier island on the georgia coast.
my children could get there by boat (the only way) and visit my spirit there - even though i know my spirit won't be there, i believe that somehow i will know they're there and what they're saying.. being buried in a box six feet under to lie in the same position througout all eternity doesn't appeal to me in the least.

dj, i agree with you.
I'm presently doing work for a christian minister, and a few days ago we started talking about religion (or something like that). I was surprised by his comprehension of bible topics.
It is hard once you've been a witness to comprehend that christians can have knowledge of bible truths. They are definitely more empathic to human sins. I don't always agree with their beliefs but for some reason I feel they are in it for better reasons than the witnesses.

I think Jesus wanted us to remember the fact that he gave his life to free us from sin.

Yes it does say a lot about me.
For starters, I don't care who would've started this war, I would've found reasons to oppose it. If you read this thread, you'll notice that a lot of people died through war. Isn't that reason enough to oppose it. I just can't imagine that simply because you want to rid the earth of one man or a group of men, you have to go around killing people to do it. Do it if you feel you have a right to, but target your victims carefully, and leave the innocents out of it. Especially these days when wars are fought because decision makers can't get along, and for the sole purpose of money. I say, let those idiots fight it out between themselves.
In Kuwait, it was different. They had been invaded by an enemy they couldn't defeat and needed help. The US came in, backed off Iraq, and that was that. Plus the world community supported the idea.
But this time you are the aggressors, the whole world agrees to that. Even the Iraqis you have liberated want you out of there. In regards to democracy, will you respect their wishes. You have blown their whole history to pieces. If you would've done it that way for me, i'd be pissed off too. Also, you have hidden the true reasons to why you are there, everyone knows that also.
But then you have those who wish to prove to themselves that they have a legal right for this war, which they don't, by denigrating those who oppose it through a guilt trip of disappreciation of what was done to them in the past by way of help in being liberated. This thread is an example.
At least the French had the common sense to say...."maybe there's another way". The whole world wanted to try a different approach, but you refused to listen to the voice of the majority, in a democratic way and you think I'll be sympathetic to your cause. The French simply voiced what others were afraid to say because the US is a powerful nation, and sadly, the effects of this will be felt by the French for a while.
For those who leave the forum because of this, well....if the truth is too much for you I'm sorry, but I won't wear white gloves to voice my opinions. I was pretty new to forums such as these, and I noticed that personal attacks can include attacks towards a group and I have toned down a bit.
There are many threads I don't read because the topic doesn't interest me. It's not really hard to avoid threads, just don't bring your cursor there.
Maybe you'll say..."wars have little to do with JW"...true....but the same applies to threads on sports and entertainment, ect.
If someone tries to push down my throat wickedness what ever the subject is, just as the government of the US is doing, anyone supporting the idea will get my point of view on the issue. It just happens that today, I think this war is pretty stupid and an insult to humanity.

Read your history my man.....
Canada, in regards to population to military ratios made bigger sacrifices than you guys. And if you read even further you will find that they had a lot to do with pushing back the germans, more than what you guys pretend to have accomplished. Their successes are in the history books, care to research that.
You make it sound like you guys defeated the germans and liberated the French by yourself...LOL on that one.
I'll give you guys the credit of having a strong military force. Your exploits in Iraq are compared to a major league baseball team playing against a little league team. Plus you used most of your ammo to do it. Nothing to brag about.
I've got visit so I'll check later

Back from the Memorial
by ScoobySnax inwell like i say, just got back from the memorial, have been going most years, but this year i went by chance (knew it was roughly at 7pm at the nearest kh) to my old congregation that i grew up in.
i didn't find the "evil" people spoke of here on this forum, or those too stupid to see.
all i did see was people i hadn't seen in years, and let me tell you, what lovely people they were.

I know what you're saying, and I pretty much feel the same way. They are not all bad and hateful. Actually the higher they are in the org., the less love and compassion they show.
There is this older lady from my area. Most witnesses don't give her the time of day cause she wasn't blessed with much intelligence and is also poor financially, but when she meets me, although she knows I'm disfellowshipped and doesn't know me personally, I get this great smile, so I return it.
Jesus said that you'd feel the truth in the littles ones. I believe that's where the essence of the truth is. It's the intellectuals that ruin the whole thing with their pharisic rules and yokes. It's all show.
So love does exist there, but you have to look at the ones without power to find it.
So I shun the Pharisees, but I empathize with the meek.

Dub Fads
by In_between_days inwhen you were a jw, did you witness a rather large enthusiasm from your congregation for passing fads?
what i mean is, one dub would start something and everyone would join in?
this was especially prevelant with the women of the congregations.. for instance, for a while every female dub was undertaking this strange diet where they basically drink this really odd and particularly disturbing looking mushroom that they kept in their fridge.

In the seventies disco was a big thing with the young crowd....I couldn't stand it myself ...but a lot would dress like Travolta.....
So then they had articles about the movie "Saturday Night Fever"....and how some girl was giving this guy a job in the back seat of a car....anyway...at the time I didn't see the movie because of the bad press and what others might think..
So a few years ago I got a chance to watch it, thinking I'll check out what the big stink was all about....man was I disapointed....what a boring movie...I couldn't believe it. These days it would be rated PG, if that...and probably wouldn't make it in the theatres.
I remember the brothers wearing these ugly shoes....thick soles....
btw....I saw one of those rubbery mushrooms you guys are talking about....what are those anyway....lol
