What I Saw & Heard in the Oral Argument Hearing on January 14, 2015
by ABibleStudent inim not an attorney and i could not record the hearing, so please forgive me if i make mistakes in relating what i remember of the oral argument hearing for jane doe (i.e., candace conti) versus the watchtower bible & tract society on january 14, 2015 and the length of this post.. i arrived at the civic center/union plaza in san francisco, ca about 7:30. the area is very nice with a few homeless people sleeping in the park across from the courthouse.
it took me about 10 minutes to find the clerks office for the court on the first floor, which opened at 8:00.. once the clerks office opened, the two clerks who i talked with were very polite and helpful.
the arguments for jane doe (i.e., candace conti) versus the watchtower bible & tract society were scheduled 5th out of (i think) 8. while i was in the office a cameraman and another person for nbc arrived asking about the hearing for candace contis case.. the courtroom for the 1st appellate court is on the 4th floor and takes up most of that floor.

Kanon= yes those were my thoughts to. How can you not have a special relationship with the elders when your a hierarchical religion with a pope giving orders. I say BS to that one. I wonder if this has anything to do with the appointment of elders now been done by the CO. Sneaky buggers. I have to say there is a whole lot of murky grey here, and it will be interesting to see how things turn out. -

LDS version of Simon?
by cappytan inmormon leaders have moved to excommunicate the prominent founder of an online forum for questioning mormons, charging him with apostasy for publicly supporting same-sex marriage and the ordination of women, and for challenging church teaching.. .

I will give mormons credit for one thing. They are about 10 years ahead of Wt in regards to openness and transparency with its members. -

I remember I was about 8 years old and I was into writing letters. I wrote letters to anybody. Anyway we had an international assembly and there were a lot of foreign delegates. I remember approaching one brother who was from Hong Kong and handing over my address and asking him if he knew anybody who would like to communicate with me. He handed the price of paper back saying "that the witnesses in his country were to busy to do that sort of thing. This was to an 8 year old kid. I was in a state of disbelief that an adult would reply like that. A $#e hole. -

Imagine a Company Sells You a Product...
by TTATTelder inimagine a company sells you a product... you like the product and begin to do more business with them.. then one day this company demands that you never visit any of their competitors for the rest of your life.
they also add that you are never allowed to read a negative customer review about their company or products for the rest of your life.. actually this company threatens you with a humiliating future death if you engage in either of these activities..... how does that sound to you?
sound reasonable?

I always use the illustration of. How would you feel if just before you were to purchase a car, the dealer informed you not to look at reviews of the car on the internet, because they were full of malicious lies from ex owners. My theory is if you wouldn't buy a car like that then don't expect someone to chose a religion like that. -

Conti Appeal Preview - Oral Argument Jan 14
by Chaserious inwith hopefully a good deal of interest here in the conti appeal tomorrow (or later today, depending on where you are), i thought that on my ride home from work tonight i'd preview what to expect and what i think the key issues are for any who are interested.
i have had a busy few weeks and haven't had time to read everything, but i had some time to look at the appeal briefs during my work commute the past couple days.
it'll be interesting to see what develops out of the network news coverage of this case.

I honestly believe that direct apostasy never works. There has to be some external event that causes them look at other material. And until they can get to that point then you are wasting your time. It's a bit like an abusive alcoholic husband and how the wife is always trying to justify his behaviour. It's not until she gets to the point that she sees it for what it is, that she will move on. But I commend you for giving it a go. -

by thedepressedsoul ini heard form a reliable source that a kingdom hall consolidation is going to be happening in the us.
currently they are looking at every kingdom hall to see if they could and should sell it.
any kingdom hall that has not been updated and is in a bad location (long driveway, not in a visible location etc...) will be sold.

Broke back watchtower= There is little doubt in my mind that financial troubles looming. I dear say what has probably accelerated this is the threat of possible abuse law suites. I remember back in the day when they purposely built the new bethel to big for its purpose in this country in order to make way for future expansion. Just recently that same bethel was sold and consolidated with one overseas. Basically just under $US44million left this countries shores with out any questions been raised, or justification of where the money was going. It just makes me sick of how they are taking advantage of people's good nature to flip property. I personally know of a KH that with in the space of 7 years had 2 refurbishments to it. The second refurbishment was a total strip out. After this it was soon noticed that the Hall was inadequate for purpose. It was then quickly sold and a new one built. I was so blinded at the time, I just couldn't see it. Now I just think what a fool -

Consequences of staying on the recommended Hotel list
by Samaritan At the Well ini wanted to share an experience i had and see if anyone else had encountered this same matter.
we always tried to make an extra effort to ensure we stood on the approved hotel lists when going to our special day conventions or district conventions or what they now call regional.
we use to stay many nights a year and i would save up my hotel points to use at a later time.. i remember checking in at popular chain hotel and asked the hotel clerk how many points would i earn for the 3 night stay?

It's interesting because in this country the society motel approved list has never been implemented. We are allowed total freedom to choose where we stay, and it has always been that way. In fact it wasn't until I came on here that I knew anything about this.

I wish I could find the link discussing this. I remember reading an incident of a hotel that was right out side the convention Centre which was and then wasn't on the approved list. A lot of witnesses still chose to stay there. So the society put some hunchoes out side the hotel, to catch the friends that were staying at the none approved locations, telling them they had to go to the rooming department where they would be told how disobedient they had been for going against the arrangement. A@$e holes.
