One thing I'm sure of. They had to have a stronger presence (and I'm not talking of the invisible kind here) on the internet, and they have reacted to it. I think the next step will be allowing the R&F to set up Web sites. There is just to much negative information out there. Weather this will drown out sites like this making them harder to find time will tell.

Coming out to the closet to your family as an "apostate". Any experiences? Your input would be greatly appreciated.
by im_free inso it's been about 10 years since i have faded out and have stopped believing in the jw teachings.
since then, i have accepted jesus and have experienced an amazing tranformation in my life and have been freed from the jw prison mentally and spiritually.
a more detailed thread about my journey is here if you are interested.. anyways, my jw family lives in another state so they are unaware that i am no longer "in the truth" since i have not told them.

Watchtower sitting on potential goldmine of millions of non-JW memorial attenders
by yadda yadda 2 inlast year's "letter from the governing body" (on jw.org) notes:.
"last year, the memorial attendance was 19,241,252. how encouraging to see so many honor jehovah and jesus christ by attending the most important meeting of the year for gods people!".
that's about 12 million or so non-jw's who go to the memorial only, a good % of whom are evidently at least somewhat sympathetic or curious about the jw's, but for various reasons have no desire to commit to the religion.. .

I have asked myself this many times of how they will spend hours and hours trying to get a new member and yet will do relatively nothing to retain or maintain an existing member. It takes 10x the effort and money to get a new customer than what it takes to keep an existing one happy. That's a fact and something I'm sure Wt could benefit from.

Formal Introduction - Hi!!!

now that i'm done with education for the time being anyway, plus the jw life is under pretty good control, i can spend some time and throw my views here and there in some attractive topics.. born-in, and deeply indoctrinated, but with life experience came better comprehension of my lot in life and have come to accept that, just like the family one is born into, jws are my family, friends, my ultimate and overall identity.
a jw is what i am; like the song 'hotel california', and like so many on this board, check out anytime you'd like but one could never leave.. remember like it was yesterday the failed 'the wolf is coming' calls of 1975, mid-80s, late 90's, y2k, 2004 or so, and same will be with the latest effort to get people overly excited about 'the end'.

Gustv= I really don't know how you do it. I'm speaking from personal experience here. I honestly and sincerely thought I could play both worlds 2 years ago when I was learning TTATT. I reasoned sure things aren't perfect and never will be due to human imperfection. Less than a year latter I walked out of the KH for the last time.

Prediction- JW's will create their own Social Network Site
by Skinnedsheep inwith their advancement into web based programming and their soon to be broadcast meetings the need for a physical meeting place is quickly diminishing.
i predict that the large scale sell-of of kingdom halls will begin in the next few years as the people get their meetings online.
the one thing that would be missed with a liquidation of kh halls is "upbuilding" association which will force the society into creating a jw social media app which will not only allow for association but close monitoring of the pubs.

I can certainly see this happening with the way they are going. It ironic how the are embracing the very thing they were slamming 10 years ago. They will be closed forums with elder approved pass words. Everything will be monitored and controlled. If they are wanting to free up the cash in their real estate holdings I can see this process been accelerated. Personally I think it's a good idea as it helps to broaden the horizons and scope of people in the religion. I think it would be pretty cool to talk to someone who's country you know nothing about.

Crofty I don't think it will be the case of encouraging it I think it will be more of been forced into the situation. The way things are moving it certainly looks as though it is heading that way. The F&DS are fully aware of this and it about making the best out of a bad situation. My fear is if that happens with the shear volume of JWS they would easily be able to drown out the voices of sites like this making them harder to find. But then on the flip side of this wouldn't it be fun taking some of these Web sites to task on their religion.

I have read posts similar to this before. I believe with the way things are heading e.g jwtv that soon someone is going to think well if they are doing it why can't I. I'm kind of getting the feeling that perhaps the F&DS are trying to push it in this direction, with out having to back track on their former policies regarding unofficial Web sites. I can give a recent example of a congregation in Britain that was advertising on the net. Needles to say when an email was sent to them regarding Wt policies regarding individuals on the net the site was promptly shut down. So perhaps their stance on this issue is softening as 10 years ago this would of never happened. How it will effect Wt (if this is their intended purpose) with opening the doors to apostate view points and reform is another matter. Clearly Wt has realized it has to have a stronger presence on the internet and it has reacted.

What exactly do the Governing body(TM) do?
by punkofnice ina genuine question really.. do they actually make desicions or are they simple sock puppets for the lawyers?.
are they just a front (like the queen is in the uk), with little or no desicion making input?.
do they just give talks and make appearances?.
